Ah, it's finally got to me. I don't know what's happened but for the last week I've been so close to walking out. The job has been bad for me for a while now - bullying / favoritism / sexism from the DIM along with impossible workloads, crap equipment, lies from above regarding figures, red tape nonsense that just adds to our already hectic days, colleagues who won't stand up to it all with me and so on.

I cut off and am told I have an issue somewhere indoor or outdoor. It's a small office, 95% of people come in early and literally no one else cuts off (in the last 2 years 1 person cut off 1 day due to an appointment). OK overtime is generally paid to the favorites who are needed to be kept sweet but not everyone wants to be out until the evening delivering.

Each day I go in thinking "if they say one more thing to me I'm going to throw everything down and walk out". The only thing keeping me is the fact I have nothing else lined up but I'm starting to think I'd rather claim dole or do a crappy cleaning job than put up with all of this. Who knows, tomorrow I might just snap and go - but this feeling is horrible and depressing. Outside the 5 or 6 hours I'm actually there I'm always thinking about whats been said or gone on and it's grinding me down.

Feel exactly the same, I think youve just got to stay positive that youll get out and make it happen by finding another job

Been close myself. Don't do it, though the job has got/will continue to get, steadily worse. For a start, you can't claim dole if you quit, at least not for a while anyway.

And if you did walk out, they win. I personally have adopted a more relaxed approach, do my best not to let them get at me, and sail through the day. I always finish on time, though in my office most stand up for themselves, and support one another.

It's not just you,the office where I work is just the same,2 vans come past me on there way home and I still have 2 and a half loops left to do,1 bloke is at home and I have to squeeze past his van to deliver his mail,stick with it pal,stick to your guns you are better than the 95% who come in early.I am waiting for the job to be privatized because for some of us it cannot get any worse.

i left royal mail a year ago ...and was there over 4 years ...and thinking back on it ..i cant believe i stayed that long ..i went through everything you described and more ..hardly ever got my break entitlement ..was constantly being cheated or attempted cheating out of overtime ..given huge workloads ..walking in to frames that were half prepped .spending hours finishing them off before i got out .( part time ) paying union dues..only for the CWU to make the whole situation even worse ..by adding up to 6 lots of d2ds ..jesus on a few occasions ..i could hardly lift my bag ..what a fool i was putting up with all the shoddy treatment .. i worked in a super market before joining royal mail ..thinking it would be a step up ....worst decision ever ...i left because i moved away ..and am back working in a super market ..10 times better ..and thats saying something ..you can actually claim dole straight away for 6 months ..i did when i moved ..making the break ..is the best thing ..sooner rather than later ...because when you do it ..you will spend time wondering why you even tolerated royal mail for so long

its sad to see on here the amount of staff who are on the brink of packing up,i dont know all the ins and outs of each case but i have been in the job quite along time now and seen alot of change of faces and changes in the job but if there is a bit of advice what ever you do nowdays dont just walk out as for one there are not the jobs about everyone thinks there are.two-i know a lot of staff who leave then say to me a few months down the road i wish i would have stayed.
three-stay in the job until you know what you want to leave for and that you will enjoy the work your going to do.

at the end of the day you go to work for the money but also try and have a bit of a laugh sometimes it gets you through the day.
any way of to work now 8 hours to slaughter my guvnors and ruin there day it keeps me going.

I think most of us are in the same situation. The morale in our DO is the lowest I've ever experienced - banter is near non existant, and there was a 'shuffling' of P&L pairs recently in alignment with the re-classification of certain duties to either full or part time, meaning that partners who who would back each other up when it came to cutting off have now been paired with other posties who aren't quite so keen on confrontation. To top it all off, we've just lost a decent(ish) DOM, who has been replaced with a balding Rottweiler who allegedly has 27 (and counting) grievances against his name. Happy times.

And that my friend is your problem - you need to see someone about your regime outside of work - there are a million and one things to occupy your mind when you're not engaged on RM business - do not concern yourself with what others do, get or say, how early they finish, how unequal the work load is, what a dick your DOM/Line Manager is - start on your time, finish on your time, go home. It's easier than you may think.

I don't know if that is pure coincidence or if they still exist but there used to be a large supermarket where I live called International - I fancy they were taken over by someone else.

Do these people bringing you down really matter to you? Are they good friends? Relatives? If they mean nothing to you then why should you care what they say or do? Work is work, go in do your best, work to your time then go home and forget about it

Everybody (well most people) have to work for a living and a vast majority hate what they do. Just tell yourself they are paying for your time and you will work that time... but nothing more. You don't have to work past your hours no matter what managers say or what jibes fellow workers may poke at you. So your the only one cutting off, it just means your the only one with balls big enough to stand up for yourself. Stand up and stand tall and if they don't like it then feck em all!

I think you are probably right that you cant claim dole if you quit a job..

When I walked out of RM a few years ago,, I had a couple of months on the rock n roll, I just told them that my contract had ended..
