Very interesting thread, thanks TBT. I still hold true what I said, its highly unlikely and unusual that you will fail a trial period. (although I cant say I know of no cases now).

Does it effect a posties total years service? ie not taken on for 18 months or so, so it takes 18 months longer to get an extra few days holiday as your total service goes up?

How about hourly rate, is that effected by not being taken on fully?

Length of service starts from your first day of service regardless of trial period,the pay rises at 6 months and 12 months are not reliant on you having your employment confirmed.

I though I had my trial when I first started working for the company (over x years ago)? It says nothing about a trial in my contract. Only the one when you first start working for RM. It also says the date my continuous employment started (x years ago). Is my DOM just trying it on I case we 'slack off'?

I'd say so yes. He/she obviously doesn't want you to do anything like stand up for yourself or cut off.
