Van speed limits?

The RM driver's manual has a section on speed limits on page 36 where it indicates that Car Derived Vans (CDV) have the same speed limits as cars where the national speed limit applies, and it gives the Peugeot Partner as an example.
Other vans and larger vehicles have lower speed limits.

The other day I was driving a hired Peugeot Partner which had a label stuck to the glovebox stating that "This vehicle is not a car derived van and the following speed limits apply" it went on to give the limits as 70mph on motorways, 60mph on dual carriageways, and 50mph on other roads. Obviously in urban areas signed limits apply.

So, is the Partner a car derived van or not?
Also, what about the other brands of small vans, e.g. Vauxhall Combo etc.?

A quick search online indicates that this is a bit of a grey area regarding the definition of a car derived van.

If you only drive in urban areas in 30, 40, or 50mph limits then its not really an issue but for those that drive out of town it is an important consideration.

In order for it to be a car derived van it must be derived from a car's chassis and be under 2 tonnes fully laden.
That's according to Schedule 6 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act of 1984.

It doesn't really affect me as my van driving is all urban and I observe the speed limits anyway, I was trying to point out a potential issue that many may be unaware of.

That would be just another instance of RM being wrong then.
The only CDV's (I think) in my office are the Vauxhall Combos, which I believe are from Corsa's, could be wrong though.
