PDA's what a pile of sh*t

They keep bloody freezing when you are at the door ,
every day I have to reboot the thing for one reason or another and now the scanned items wont download and when you finish you have 25 items showing .
Is it down to a s**t reception area or is it the crappy software. I've tried reconnecting to Comms and still nothing .
I have to take the battery out and put it back in when I get to the office but next morning it still shows undownloaded items.
When are we getting some new ones that actually work?

Ain't been working properly since the clocks went forward, It's not like it was a one off incident that they were unaware of and unprepared for.

It does not appear to be a hardware issue - software or networks most likely.

What's the score when the PDA's don't work and you use the old method of pen and paper for tracked items, the guy in the office doesn't like scanning them through as he says they should be done on the PDA.

I hate PDA purely because it like carrying an extra packet. That alone takes up halve the weight allowance when carrying a bag. Freezing i'm sure they will get worse when the hot weather arrives(wait if it arrives).

Well apparently summer is scheduled for a Thursday year, but their not sure what Thursday

I don't give a f**k if it downloads or not if it beeps and changes to the next screen when I scan something and the person can sign it,thats good enough for me.

fair enough - it was just an observational comment.

They do download eventually but managers have been coming round saying Tracked Items have not been scanned. In most of the cases, it is us postie missing the new (very small) labels but I do wonder whether the PDA might also be an issue.

It does not help if a manager comes to you many days after the event especially for some of us that do many different walks and delivery mail that has been bagged up by others (some ppl insist on incorporating tracks and specials with mail in the bag ).

There has been a massive problem with the system for the last two weeks. Don't know, and I'm not sure RM's IT department know either, whether it was caused by the clocks rather predictably going forward or not, but there was also a software download due which apparently hasn't happened, though it was supposed to last weekend, when that failed it was due to be done over the weekend just gone, but apparently it still hasn't happened, or if it has, it hasn't worked.

It does seem to primarily be a comms issue, so I was wondering if RM had done a cost cutting exercise, and switched from Vodafone (I think that's who provides our comms service), to a cheaper company like Three network, who have the worst network coverage of all mobile phone providers I believe. Obviously, I say this in jest, but still....

The coms on the pdas is just crap in general, when rm bought them you would have thought they would have got them set up to send all events when they are sat in their cradle. Sometimes they decide to go into SUS mode at 20% ish battery and won't come out of SUS even when their is enough battery left to send whatever needs to be sent.

Is the software update that is due to happen linked to the "Packet Post Returns" option which is currently disabled?

I saw a guy delivering for Yodel in his own 15 year old car the other day, the PDA he was carrying was about the size of a mobile phone and looked very slick.

We get PDAs the size of a brick, whoever sold RM that shite for a grand a chuck must have been screaming with laughter, they're an embarrassment. Imagine being mugged on delivery, the thief would see the PDA and get caught cos he wouldn't be able to run for laughing.
