Bank Holiday payments

In my office, myself and a few others had our RDO on the BAnk holiday Monday just gone. It was decided that rather than take a day in lieu we would all take the payment option instead. The week it was due to be paid - it wasn't (managers admitted it was their fault for not completing the paperwork) so the authorisation sheet appeared which we all signed and expected payment today! Guess what, no payment. We've been told by the acting assistant manager that it was an 'input error' and that we could no longer take the payment as we had passed the HR deadline and as a result we'd have to take the day in lieu
This is no good for me as I already have sh*t loads of carried over leave that I'm never allowed to take so what use is an extra day? Where do we stand on getting this payment?

I don't know. But why don't you ring HR and ask? Also ask your boss for it in writing, and/or to see the relevant agreement.

I can't imagine why not.
That would mean Royal Mail had different rules for the Christmas Bank Holidays than it did for Easter and that wouldn't make much sense.

Where a rest day falls on a Bank Holiday (i.e. 25, 26 December or 1 January, plus 2 January in Scotland) and it is not operationally sensible to transfer the rest day to another day in the same week people will receive an additional day holiday (including those working ‘a week off in six’ or other variations on this theme) in the form of a day in lieu or alternatively the excess hours can be taken as normal overtime

That would mean Royal Mail had different rules for the Christmas Bank Holidays than it did for Easter and that wouldn't make much sense.

It was our managers suggestion as a lot of us have accrued a lot of 'carried holidays' so it must be allowed......

I don't know if its just me, but I seem to have to argue the toss over absolutely anything lately, does my f***ing head in!!

just be aware that quote fishtank gave is from the xmas and new year working arrangements, yes it would be sensible to assume it applies at other bank holidays but again not in writing as far as i know
