Couple of questions for someone with experience

Can anyone answer a couple of questions for me:

1. What is lapsing? Its being mentioned in our office as parcels and letters start to decline at this time of year

2. People are saying we will be getting a bonus of around £2500 very soon? is this true? if so, what is it for?

Lapsing is what happens when there isn't enough work to fill all the paid hours in the office.
One or more rounds is split up so everyone takes a share on top of their usual delivery in an attempt to ensure everyone is working during the hours that they are being paid for

different offices seem to have different procedures for it but the golden rule is if you honestly don't have the time to do it you don't have to do it


as to your second point, there are rumours (well some sort of official agreement thingy which may as well be a fairy tale) of a £1000 (paid in 3 instalments of £200-£600-£200) upon successful deployment of various revision targets.
However getting the payments is a whole other debacle

1. Lapsing - where one or more duties are lapsed and shared between other rounds usually for a per-determined length of time.. (Sometimes incorrectly known as absorbing which is to do with absences and sickness)

2. £2500 bonus - No its not true. The government are currently discussing how we will be privatised. One of the provisions of the Act that allows this is that 10% will go to employees, someone has guessed that RM is worth between £3 and £4billion, 10% of that divided up between 160000 staff = £1875 - £2500. But don't spend it they haven't decided whether we will have to pay for them albeit subsidised, or if we will get them free AND they are mulling over if we will be blocked from selling them straight away. There was also talk of them being held in Trust by the Union.
