if you do an hour and then go sick it will not count in the attendance procedure unless they tell you you have had to many part absences and they will now count.

Part-day absences will not normally be considered towards the formal process. If the number of part-day absences has become excessive, the matter will be discussed with the employee in line with the principles of the Attendance Agreement. Further part-day absences may be counted against the attendance standards, following advance written notice

There is a grey area though, a part absence is just that, absence for just a part of a day. If you remain sick the next day then the absence isn't a part day absence - its a 2 day absence, and as far as I know it counts. A senior guy at my place got caught on that last week.

It's not a grey area, he got conned. It should be one full and one part day.

It is a grey area, a grey area that managers use their discretion on. Part day absences should be discounted in the 1st instance, if you have a history or pattern of part day absences then management can count them if they've put it in writing that theres a pattern. I've dealt with 2 recent cases, the first was a postie had his first ever part absence (attended work for 2 hours) and the manager counted it and issued a Stage 1 as that part absence was the trigger point (14th day), a grievance has gone in. The 2nd case was a dismissal where the postie had 3 part day absences and all 3 were discounted by the manager, he was dismissed as his record was abysmal but it shows the inconsistent way managers work.

It's not a grey area, its just that some managers dont understand it. Part days don't count towards stage warnings unless the you have been informed in advance in writing that they will count. They should still be recorded as part day absences though and will be fully paid and should not be counted towards sick pay.

If they are being recorded as full days then that would mean that RM is using them towards Statutory Sick Pay entitlements, and claiming it back which would be fraudulent.

There is no rule anywhere that states that a part day absence followed by a full day absence should be recorded as 2 full days. If there is I would love to see it.
