Re: why isn`t our service this good?
Because we deliver far more than all the other courier companies, roughly 50 packets for me today, something similar for the other 30 duties and all in a small area, I think the 1 Yodel guy would have a heart attack for he was given 1500 packets to do a day.

having worked for some of the opposition in the past, I can shed some light on it.
you load your van in reverse order so last delivery is at the bulk head of the van, and you scan it so, then load until you come to your 1st delivery.
all this data is put onto your PDA and hence you have a delivery run, which is easily divided into 5 min slots, hence you were given a 1 hour slot for your delivery.
however, the courier will only have around 100-ish deliveries for the day over say 6 hours before they start their collections, and will have the timed deliveries already put into the run order.
so are you saying that we sort and bundle up, then work out what packet comes where and at what time roughly we will get there?
with 500+ delivery points it could work out a long drawn out process and allow even less time for the deliveries.
so what happens if Mrs Smith wants a 5 min chat and Mrs Brown invites you in for a friendly cup of tea or traffic becomes a problem?, you are then 15-20 minutes behind and rushing around to try and get to a certain customer can get their £2 ebay purchase by 12:42.
I can see where it could work for Parcel Force but not the normal Postie on the street.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DPD are far and away the better of all the courier companies out there and PF should look to model themselves on said company. ( or even buy it out with all the privatization cash that is coming our way )

I spoke to the guy for a couple of minutes, said he did some work for parcelforce when he was agency. Basically said the whole thing at PF was disorganised and chaotic, the stuff in his van never matched his paperwork and he could never be sure If they had a days work for him when he turned up.Said he was much happier working for DPD.
I was going to ask him about pay and hours but thought that was a bit cheeky.

I got pretty much the same service ordering tyres. Only £3.99 each and a 24 hr with text delivery service.
Rows of houses all bearing down on me........I can feel their blue hands touching me.......All these things in all positions.........All these things will one day take control..........

because theres not enough of us left to be able toihatedogs wrote:Ordered a part for my car by phone at 6pm friday, got a text within ten minutes from DPD confirming delivery on monday and offering me the option of deliver to neighbour or pick another day.
Today at 11am got another text saying delivery will be between 2.30 and 3.30, parcel came at 2.55. Courier firms, quite rightly sometimes, get a lot of stick for poor service but I was very impressed with DPD. Delivery was £4.99 for a parcel weighing approx 4kg and this price included next day delivery if ordered by 3pm.
If we are now a parcel company then this is the kind of service we should be aiming for.

And there will be even less of us in the next few years, by quite a large number I think.hans solo wrote:because theres not enough of us left to be able toihatedogs wrote:Ordered a part for my car by phone at 6pm friday, got a text within ten minutes from DPD confirming delivery on monday and offering me the option of deliver to neighbour or pick another day.

I think DPD are self-employed drivers so I guess your wages each week could vary quite a lot. Could be good, could be bad, only someone's experience could tell us I suppose but I bet they don't get £10 an hour let's put it that way.
