Outdoor Secretary’s Introduction

Discussions have been taking place with Royal Mail regarding Pace of Change and Fair & Manageable Workload along with a number of other delivery related issues. It is apparent that the discussions regarding the future of the industry and what deliveries will look like going forward will be complex and difficult, but we are determined to get things right for our members. However we have made it clear to Royal Mail that we will not be in a position to move into a ‘new’ delivery environment until we have deployed BT2010 successfully and dealt with the problems that have arisen as a consequence of poorly planned revisions and unachievable performance targets. Performance and Flexibility will be major issues that we will have to deal with. It is important that all of our members are lined up behind the Union in what will be crucial talks for everyone.
Bob Gibson – CWU Assistant Secretary Outdoor

I would expect that we will need to bulk buy KY jelly......
RM will want to change performance targets up i.e. to their advantage, and not in a small way, probably a minimum 20% increase. They will also want to change the way it is monitored and dealt with.
As far as flexibility goes, this will again entail a massive shift to RM's desired targets, and they will no doubt want to be able to change attendance times, where they can send you, what you do etc. etc., and all at a moments notice and without any of the current considerations taken into account, e.g. no longer travelling on their time but your own. They will want more 'innovative' shift patterns, such as split shifts, and also the power to send you home when business is slow, and have you make up the hours at their behest, but it will be compulsory, not like now where you're given the option.
None of it will be of benefit to us. Although, amazingly, that is probably exactly how it will be sold to us.

Well....if it's anything like the way you addressed the bullying and Harassment Bob i'm sure it will be a resounding climbdown as usual.

It,ll be like every other agreement in that the CWU will tell us what a great deal it is but once it is deployed it will become a nightmare.
