Different finish times

I have a 4 day week with 5 hours per shift but most of the time i work with a partner whose finish time is 40 minutes after mine. I have been told you should have the same finish times but the dom shrugs his shoulders when i ask him about it. We don't have a union rep so i can't ask them. Can anyone shed a little light on this for me?

Being a shared van duty if anything might be different for whatever reason should be start times.
You both complete the delivery together so your finish times should therefore reflect this.

I had this problem with a shared van duty, the guy I was with had a finish time half an hour before mine, and wanted to work to his time during school term, for picking up his kids.
I used to take him back to the office, unload his bags, then go back out, deliver about another bundle before it was time for me to finish, drove the managers mad for ages, then they changed it so that he came in half an hour later.

How could anyone have signed off a revision with such a glaring inconsistency?
It beggars belief that anyone should be in charge of major change and not be able to have 2 people with the same finish time.
It isn't even difficult to arrange.

you may not have a local rep but you can still get in touch with your area rep who is responsible for you in the absence of a local rep.

Sometimes the best way to resolve these situations is to play the game and flag up the stupidity and inefficiencies in the planning.
If you are scheduled to finish 40 mins before your partner make sure they take you back to the D.O. for your finish time before going back out to finish their 40 minutes.
Once management realise they are paying for double journeys of dead time the situation should be resolved.

It should have been resolved by him taking his 20 minutes at the same time as you.

Why is that, and where is it laid down please? Some people prefer to push through and break at the end, if you are allowed to take your break before you go out why can't you take it before you come in?

The Working Time Regulations 1998 state the following provision for rest breaks at work and time off:

Rest breaks at work
A worker is entitled to an uninterrupted break of 20 minutes when daily working time is more than six hours. It should be a break in working time and should not be taken either at the start, or at the end, of a working day.

Breaks at the beginning or end of attendance

Where an attendance is provided with more than one break, the second break may be scheduled at the beginning or end, in which case attendance is not required solely for booking on or off. A single break should not be scheduled at the beginning or end of the attendance.

Thts poor management arent u supposed to take 20 mins before you go out.... or is it that your so bad at bagging up that he had to take 20 mins break as he was waiting for you to bag up?
