Mails Down ( or so we keep getting told)

If mail is down so much. Maybe some one can tell me why it took 6 hours to get round yesterday! Yes it is P & L with lapsing. Ok it was on a round that I have not done before, but me & partner that day are not slouches. Also, if mail is down that much. How come ( on a personal level ) I now get more post delivered to me than I ever have done before!!! Don't believe the hype. Any one else get more mail, the same or less. Maybe we should have a poll on it?

Less mail, more packets (whoops, sorry parcels), more D2ds, more tracked. 5 years ago we had 8 walks in SPDO. We now have 6 and their has been many new estates built since, so it is obvious that each of us is carrying more and having to work harder, but as far as mail is concerned as a business there is without doubt a steady decline.

Don't get me wrong. I will admit mail volumes have fallen. Just no where near as much as RF say. If I believed what they say then I would now have half as much as less than 8 years ago. That is also taking into account bigger walks & more parcels. Its about time these people got out there & tried to do this job day in & out with what they say you can do in the time allowed. Most of them would probably be dead within a week! At least we can hope!!!!

Think it needs clarifying ,certainly on many rounds.

1,letters are down ,no question,

2,Flats,ie Magazines ,A4 marketing material -Not down ,if any thing increase and this mail cannot be put through the machines
and our local mail centre ,long distance away struggles to even get the mail sorted by the correct town ,let alone the postcodes.

3,Packet volume every day now is at the volume of peak Dec period 2011,minium of 2 heaving sacks every day

4,How the mail arrives from the mail centre is the worst it has ever been ,Not only does the mail centre have no idea what town the mail is going to ,they cannot even tell the difference between letters and flats so you will have several trays mixed with letters and flats ,across several different postcodes and if you are really luck some of the mail may be for your office.

Rounds bigger than ever now and more expected upon you

yesterday was Polling Cards , Heavy Council booklets 80% of the round and 5 trays of Flats, 25% of round with D2D's and 3 packet bags on my frame but lets not forget that Letters are down

Could the real problem be that many years ago the actual count of mail was not as accurate as it is now, we now have more machined mail which counts as it sorts so giving RM the real figures....also remember a lot of managers used to falcify figures to make their office look busier than it really was, that used to happen in our DO

Our CFC's used to run 13.30- 20.30 every day flat-out, now they only need to run one, and that starts at 15.00 to about 20.00. One of our MPU's used to run to 09.00 every day, now those crews are finished and hoovered by 06.30-ish.

It's undeniably dropped dramatically over the last two years.

An example of my office is 4 yorks of sequenced/walk sorted mail and 8 yorks of manual (mixed between flats and letters) plus the 18 yorks of packets

No, traffic's dropped considerably, that's why the machines run for less time.

So, collected mail is down (which nobody is denying) it's just all the other stuff we seem to get, bagged up not to mention all the other mail that they can be bothered to sort up but I suppose all that doesn't really matter.

Collection mail is a small part of the daily volume of traffic, but all other mail is down too. Haven't you noticed the decline of paper bank statements, bills, invoices, etc etc?

Anyone else noticed a fair jump in the amount of Amazon Tracked?

With letters in with flats if they arrive at the Inward MC as flats then they have to be sent out to DOs as flats as that's how they're recorded on the system. Technically we should be sending things like the pill boxes and them health food boxes to DOs as flats as they go through the slot

All the Matalan, Tesco crap,Nectar etc I could go on,for every house that has to be sorted manually that takes all the time
