20 minute break.

Hi, Can any one advise me please.

I am on a 25 hour contract thats 9am to 2pm (less half an hour lunch allowance).
I have been told today that I have to take a 20 minute break and finish at 2.20
That means I have to spend an extra 20 minutes a day at work unpaid. Thats 1 hours 40 minutes every week.
This can't be right it goes against my contract.

What should I do please.

Hmm well i know what i would say to that lol.Only time i've heard of something like this is if the Postperson didn't have their break during their normal hours(which then they should claim as docket).So simply make sure you take your break within hours id say!

I should add that he is not asking me to take a break at 2pm.
Its just before I go out to deliver.

5 hour contract is 30 minute break within your 5 hour working day

Break? What's a break? I don't get time for that as I have to walk the streets non stop for 4 hours and even then we sometimes work over our time. My van driver however, always manages to go shopping and have at least half an hour break sat in the van having his dinner. Not me though, I just don't have the time.

Nope that is the honest truth. The only 'break' I have is when I'm sat in the van for 2 minutes going from one loop to another. Like I said my van driver gets his break but I don't get one otherwise I'd be out delivering all afternoon. I've not really give it much thought until now to be honest but wouldn't you have thought he'd suggest to me about taking my break.

So why when he's sat in the van having his break don't you join him ? you are entitled to a break, whether he likes it or not, if you want to complete book docket, if not cut off, it really is that simple, providing you work to system RM want you to, and not what the managers try to bully you into, there is jack all they can do about it.

you must have worked at least 2 hours before been told to take any type of break that what the law states

I think she means that her loops are a lot bigger than the drivers and when he has done the large parcels,he sits on his ass in the van rather than helping her,there are some very lazy drivers.

Why should he help her? That can get very tedious if you're doing all your own work plus some of the other persons loops. If the loops aren't balanced he shouldn't have to take responsibility.
