Good Friday/Saturday Mail

Not one contingency plan has been put into force for Saturday morning I’m worried its going to be a long day because mail came into our office at dinner time today for Saturday already. Years ago we worked Good Friday double time and day owed then the last few years they had extra sorters in early on the Saturday, this year nothing has been mentioned. I fear the worse on Saturday.

Why? You work until your finish time and go home. As long as you have informed your manager of this at the earliest opportunity, preferably with a witness, there should be no comebacks. After all, it is up to management to actually manage the workload, without expecting staff to work all hours of the day.

Just work the hours you are contracted to work, no more, no less.

Been told they are streaming our mail on Saturday. Basically means Saturday won't be as bad as it could be, but tuesday will be more than a little bit pants!

Already been told that we will be lapsing along with doing collections. Well I for one will be working to my time. Sod what cant be delivered, I don't care anymore.

myself, I do actually care that people arent getting their mail, however, I take no personal responsibility for getting the mail to them, this is a management issue they should be the ones organising the hours in the office better, of increasing them if theres not enough to absorb mail volumes.
If managers want to add lapsing, well thats just a bit more mail that isnt getting delivered if there isnt enough time for it to be done.

We failed big time on Thursday. I counted 10 yorks of packets and god knows how many trays of flats that we left. There were still loads of cut offs too.

So Saturday is going to be cut off city. Then Tuesday will be the same.

None of them, as it goes down as an 'operational decision'. Even though they all are. Pretty much daily. Just doesn't apply.

There's at least 30 cages of packages in our office that has built up over the last week, and wasn't delivered by the end of Thursday. It's been due to a combination of snow, recent change to park and loop, and severe under staffing. Managers just seem to be twiddling their thumbs, hoping it will all go away.
On my loop pairing alone, there's 3 tall cages of packages waiting to to be delivered. Last week, me and my partner did 8 hours of pressure overtime each, just to get our walk completed.
Why are Royal Mail so useless? These packages are worth MONEY, and if we fail on them, people will just use other companies. It's as though they want to ruin the company on purpose.

Jan 2nd is our substitution day for Good Friday.
It's the better deal.

If you are going to have an Easter bank holiday weekend make it a real weekend and include the Saturday otherwise don't bother.
I think if you put it to the members that they could work Good Friday and have Saturday and Monday off instead they would jump at that but of course that would take some progressive thinking.
