We have a new one in our office,Seems to be the ultimate gobshite,Already threats of suspension to a few staff,Telling staff if they bring mail back they will be suspended so making them guess how much they need to leave in the frame to finish on time,Why should staff who want to finish on time be made to guess how much they have to leave?

One guy last week left some in the frame,Still went over by 45 mins and was late picking his son up from school but had to finish because of being threatened with suspension.

I always thought procedure was to inform your manager you wouldn't be able to complete in your time and would be bringing mail back,With the way things are with all the packets/tracked/signed for/specials How can you make such a pinpoint guess as to how much you need to leave? It f***ing stinks and really makes me angry.

It's because they want to know how much to cover, and to cover it asap, so they can go home at the earliest opportunity. Simple advice, don't push yourself. If you think you can do say 80%, tell him 70%. You'll find the boss will argue(piss and moan) for you to do more. Thing is, if you underestimate, unintentionally naturally, you can slow down and finish on time - when cutting off you do not, under any circumstances, finish early as they will do you. It's what they're after.

CWU have ignored this problem, they prefer to issue a "Joint Statement " and hope it'll all go away

In the short term prepair for another joint statement
In the medium term prepair for privatisation
In the long term, find another job ( unless you want to work like a dog for minimum wage )

Under normal circumstances, if correct procedures have been followed no conduct action will be taken against individuals if it is not possible to deliver all the mail by their scheduled finish time.

let your manager make the decision they are payed to manage. but make sure you tell them in front of a witness if you think you still will not be able to complete that way if you dont you have covered yourself.

We are told we cant drop bags under any circumstances, instead we are told to cull the mail and get out on delivery so that we can go round the whole delivery within our time,left two boxes of mail in today first class, second class letters in there with all the other crap we deliver this company is a joke.If only the customers new why they are waiting so long for items to be delivered .

Is not the standard response to a request (order) of this type to ask for the instruction in writing? And then see what happens.

CWU! Your members need you WHERE ARE YOU!! I am one of the very few maybe the only one who will refuse to work over my time. The walks are far too big.The number of parcels is disgusting. Because I LEAVE ITEMS IN THE FRAME I AM SEEN AS TROUBLE. THIS IS JUST NOT ON. I FEEL VICTIMISED JUST COS I WANT TO WORK TO MY TIME!! THE REST OF THEM COME IN EARLY, WORK THROUGH BREAKS,DO D2DS IN THEIR OWN TIME. WHY OH WHY ARN;T THE UNION DOING SOMETHING ABOUT THESE ISSUES. SHAME ON THE SPINELESS CWU SHAME!!

The CWU will act first by holding emergency talks about arranging an emergency talk. This all costs money so the first order of the day will be to increase subs at the rate of inflation, then worry about the other crap sometime in the future.
