Post by lanarkpostie18 »

Why does everyone in Royal Mail feel it is acceptable to bully i have never worked for a company that is as bad for it,The management team in my office are bad they have had grown men cry it maybe something they are proud of but there is meant to be things in place to stop this kind of harrasement and when men tell them about there overtime you would think we were taking the money out of there pockets what has this company came to i hope that allows this to happen what do you guys think of this and us as a union what can we do to stamp it out(no pun intended lol)

Please be careful mate - although you have not identified yourself you have identified the DO and made remarks about identifiable individuals. People have been suspended or sacked for less.

Bullying goes on in my O everyday. It's the same bloke who does the bullying and usually he has the same target. DOM won't do anything as he's his little stool pigeon reporting back if anything happens on the floor.
I staged a Roger Moore impersonator festival in my local village. There were a lot of eyebrows raised, I can tell you.

That was apparently a gnats away from happening. Just before I joined two blokes were all set to give him a hiding but IB turned up on the day and nabbed one of them on something else!

Arty! does the full office feel the same about this guy?
any bully if they get confronted they always back down so tell him to F##K off or phone IB on him you dont need to say who you are they will investigate his bullying and if they feel he is he will be removed immediatly and you will know inside you did it and you will be happy with yourself and the rest of the office will be happy and he will be put in his place.

All I do with the manager's is keep them at a great distance. I'm not an overtime king, I will do it very rarely if they are really desperate, but generally I will say no.

You are right about how they lick your arse and creep to you when they want to prime you up for asking you to do something they want, but then if you don't do it, or god forbid you go off sick for a week, well then you will be in the bad books.

It's pathetic really, best thing as I say, just keep them at a distance, there are certain posties in my office who are dead pally with the managers then moan when they get screwed over for overtime if they forget to book it etc.

All I say is, "They're not your mate, they're your manager, treat them as such".

We once had a right bullying little tw@t of a manager in our office. One day he started on a newbie and without any prior planning all the guys within earshot gathered round the little turd and started giving him some right grief, eventually grouping closely round him repeating over and over "We don't stand for bullying in this office" and not letting him get a word in. Never seen a grown man visibly shrink before. It was just one of those days when everyone was sick of him, he moved on to another office soon after. Pity it didn't become the norm for dealing with this type of manager.

Managers now seem to try to isolate someone before picking on them.

Stop this stupid thread right away. There is no such thing as bullying in Royal Mail. If you persist in making such stupid accusations not only will we withdraw any overtime you might want to do we won't pay you for overtime you've already done. We won't let you use any days in Lieu you have accumulated and don't you dare think that you'll be able to get the holiday days you want. We'll only give you Tuesdays off unless we can give you a bank holiday instead and you'll get extra collapsing whenever we can put some your way.
So there you go, NO SUCH THING AS BULLYING. Now put those six D2D's together, get 'em in the frame and get out of here, what do you mean you're already 20 minutes late? You want to claim your break? On a MONDAY? Can't justify it, stop whinging and get on with it, and don't forget the collapsing.

Correct B&H does not exist in RM ... this is the reply I received to a letter I addressed to Jo Swinson MP – Parliamentary Under Secretary for the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills:

Thank you for your email to Jo Swinson MP about your concerns over bullying and harassment at Royal Mail. The Royal Mail falls within the portfolio of Department for Business, Innovation and Skills Minister for Business and Enterprise, Michael Fallon MP. I hope you will appreciate that the Minister receives large amounts of correspondence each day and is not able to respond to each item personally. I have been asked to reply.

I was sorry to learn of your concerns. I should explain that addressing any concerns over employment and internal staffing matters is the direct operational responsibility of Royal Mail’s senior management team. The Government’s relationship with the company is that of an arms-length shareholder and as such we do not play any role in, or are in a position to investigate claims of bullying and harassment. These are matters for the company to resolve.

Royal Mail assures me it does not condone and is committed to dealing with any form of bullying and harassment. The company and the CWU are both committed to upholding standards of fairness, dignity and respect and seek to work together to create a climate across the business that reinforces this. Royal Mail considers it has strong anti bullying policies and clear procedures in place, which have been agreed with the CWU. You will be aware that this includes bullying and harassment grievance procedures, should any member of staff suffer any form and unfair treatment or victimisation, supported by a bullying and harassment helpline which offers confidential and impartial advice. There is also independent investigation of any complaints that have been submitted.

We raised your general concerns with Royal Mail (not revealing your details). The company considers that most of its managers have a good relationship with their team members. Any managers found after investigation to have bullied staff are liable to be disciplined or dismissed, regardless of what level they are within the business. I understand that the recent CWU survey elicited only 600 responses from a total Royal Mail delivery workforce of around 95,000 people. But the company has assured us that it is not complacent. It remains committed to dealing with any claims of bullying and harassment and has confirmed it is talking to the CWU about the concerns raised by their survey and is working with them to address and investigate these. I hope that you will welcome that the company is also in the process of overhauling its training for managers and is rolling out initiatives across the business to improve engagement and involvement during its period of significant change, to get managers and staff working more closely together for the future success of the business.

And stop calling Linos 'Managers' you have to actually manage something to be classed as a manager - charge hands or supervisors at best !!

Best way to deal with bullies is to do it locally and early, standing up to them before they even get started is the way to do it, if the entire office stood up to the bullying Manager and treated him as "Persona Non Gratia" he will be powerless and will leave.

Its the best way, localised hard fast ruthless way do rid them.

I agree. And we do. But they have disciplined a few of us, when an opportunity arose (i.e. they blew something out of proportion), on totally 'unrelated' issues.

The only other problem, is that some will still say nothing and ignore it. Even though, in the past, they have been defended/assisted by others. But we don't then refuse to help them, as that would defeat the point. :evil/mad
