Hi

Im a female postie . Ive torn my ligaments for the 2nd time and I feel I just want to finish this job . My CU rep told me to wait for IHR to be offered to me but it doesn't seem they will .

Question is this .......... Can I ask for it ? Im part time and been in the job 7 years in April . Any idea what the payout would be just incase its not worth the hastle ?

You can't exactly ask for IHR,it isn't done on a request basis but there's nothing wrong with you informing ATOS and your manager that if that was the direction things appeared to be heading in you wouldn't be against it.
At the end of the day IHR is supposed to be a decision based around medical evidence.

The lump sum for you would be 34 weeks pay plus 9 weeks PILON plus any outstanding annual leave.

Ok 34 weeks normal pay . What is PILON ? Annual leave starts again inApril and I will have 34 days to take . Does this get added too ?

go sick,, stay on it. if you can keep getting sicknotes, to keep you covered then they will more than likely ofer you ihr.

PILON- Pay in Lieu of notice.

Leave - No - Leave is accrued throughout the year so the amount you would be entitled to depends on whether you pay for extra leave, and when you are given notice officially. Basic entitlement is roughly 2.5 days per calendar month.

How would someone get their doc to do that ? My leg is knackered so im not conning anyone .

its done over a period time, drs notes, atos report, there is a 9 month rule(eg will the condition still be there in 9 months then payment is issued, i can see royal mail getting rid of the payment

I can vouch for the time scale quoted,from my first symptons to me leaving under IHR was 10 months.

if your leg is knackered your doc wont risk being sued by refusing you a sick note.
usually they will refer you to a specialist to diagnose further.

as long as you are covered with a diagnosis and you cant do your job he will have to sign you off.

Leg is truly knackered . Probably needs surgery . My main concern is people believing me . What if I tell my doc its not getting better and still sore and he still recommends light duties ? Do I just keep telling him its not getting better ? Surely he will know best ?

One way or another I wont go back to the job . Just too sore now on my poor legs . Just want to make sure I don't screw it up for myself with a chance of getting some money before I go .

if your leg is ''truly knackered'',,,,(and i dont doubt you) then the doctor will know, and more than likely refer you to a consultant or specialist. if you cant go back, then when you have been off sick for some time, you will be assessed by atos, who will either recommend ihr with lump sum,,,,or the may suggest other work you may be able to do. i.e. a sedentary job at a desk or a job with little physical assertion (gaffers job). stick to you,re guns if you feel you cant return in any capacity, and the WILL ih retire you.

they wanted to ih retire me after 5 months off with arthritis. it wasnt what i wanted, so i had total knee replacement, then went back after months, light duties at first, full dutis now.

Yeah I think they want me back in about a months time to do computer work I was trained on but I don't want to ever go back there to work . Just worried I will have no choice .

What could you say if they said come back and work at a desk until your better no matter how long it takes ? Don't want this to happen .

Well I'm a little bit perplexed here, you haven't been to see a specialist, there is remedial treatment, there is a non-exertion duty available for you but you don't want to do it or make any attempt to continue employment but you'd like the business to pay you off on ill health Have you thought of a career break instead?

Unfortunately from what I gather, even people with major illnesses like MS are having problems getting IHT....!!!!
You have got to prove way beyond doubt there is no way possible you can ever work in the least way again.Ever.
