my bloody mothers dog bit the paper girl today. she's 80 and said it was only a nip. i said its not a nice experiance mum, but the layman/mum still can't see the frightening experiance this is. anyway an irate parent came round, followed by the old bill, but as the dog was on her property the copper said its the end of it. if it was down to me you would be responsible for the dogs actions and pay up accordingly. but having said all that it is my mum.

All dog owner should be made to have a sign warning people that they have a dog. Simple!

It will not stop workers and strangers being bitten but at least they would have been warned to be careful...

A nip! Well, do we know whether the dog is inoculated or not and what is the issue about being on property. I don't get it!

Is it not the law that Posties should have access or be able to to deliver mail re: bills, writs, and so on. And Utilities people should have access, and the police, and social services and the council...

i hate dogs, a working life in conflict with them has made me that way, but large parts of society love em and see no wrong in them being aggressive and terrertorial. i reckon we should be issued with some high powered pepper spray.

It may be the end of it as far as the plod are concerned but may not be the end of it as far as compensation goes. The paper girls parents could go to a no win no fee claims firm and they may bring a civil action.

nope, paper girl in teens, awaiting developments, parents pissed off, but if it was your sprog, can you blame them? perhaps the cwu should get our solicitors to put in no fee no win claims on all dog attacks? but as i said its my old mum. poxy dog sat beside copper as if butter wouldn't melt when he came round. bloody dogs, the devil incarnite.

20 or 80 if you own a pet dog you have to take responsibility for its actions.

If she where my Daughter I would be far from pleased.

I dont like the "shes an 80 year old woman" argument. Well, if shes "too old" and incapable to control her dog then maybe she shouldnt own one ?
Im not saying that they should take her dog away, unless there was an attempt to evade her from being responsible because of her age. She should be accountable for any injury claim given against her because of her dog.

I bet the old woman has apologised and is truly sorry,so would you sue her for compensation? as long as my child wasn't seriously hurt that would be the end of it for me.That dog is probably the only company she has of a night time.Have a heart ffs,there is more to life than money.

Its not about not having a heart, its about people lacking responsibility about things. How did this even happen in the first place ? we dont have many details other than the fact it bit the girl so its hard to say in this instance, it seems there was little in the way of injury this time, but it could have been worse. Lets hope she takes appropriate safeguards to make sure the dog isnt able to attack anyone else
On a more general point, people are way too relaxed about how they assume their dogs will react to strangers, we`ve all heard the stories of people getting injured from dog bites because owners believe the dog will act the same way as they do with themselves.

why does her age matter she is the dogs owner after all if it had bitten or nipped you bet you're attitude would be different.

I've been bitten a few times once bad enough to have micro surgery on my finger and hand and never felt the need to sue anybody,if it was an accident and no serious injury what good would sueing somebody do,old people worry more about these things and can be a bit forgetful. Different matter entirely if it was a full blown dog attack,they deserve everything they get then but accidents do happen,it's not a perfect world.

definetley not a perfect world but cannot agree that dog,s biting people can be classed as accident. dog owner,s need to be more responsible whatever there age.
