Ok, So with our revision kicking in, we were all asked to give 5 preferences of the duties listed. Being one of the last in I knew I would not get a choice but I was fine with that. However, I was phoned and told I had been left with a reserve position which could mean I could be sent to any office in the area if I was needed.
Then, after a few days I was pulled into the office with the guy who started not long before me and told that he had changed his mind to his choice. He had the reserve job down as one of his preferences, but when the manager explained he could be sent anywhere in the area he decided to choose a different duty, but has now decided he would like the reserve job (which I have already been offered).
Now, I am being told I either take the duty he picked over the reserve position at first (the duty he had picked is unsuitable to me because of the working hours) and if I dont take it, I will be sent to another office because they will need to bring someone in who can do the hours.
So my question, Is it just me or does this guy not have the right to change his mind as he was already given the choice of the two duties?

This is for the people in the know - UNION guys... The other postie is being naughty - the job that he signed for must have been obvious to him ; in terms of hours.
But I am not sure how your resign was done with a choice of 5 preferences... That is too many to start with. And why have preferences when the whole thing is done on seniority? You go in one by one based on seniority.
Did you sign on a piece of paper when offered the Reserve duty? That might be important in fighting your case.
