Redoing the revision

Post by ashadd »

At long last, the Dom has finally decided that our revision is not working and it never will.So we are starting it all over again. :nana :nana :nana :nana So all you guys out there take heed , we wont be the only ones to do this , so stick to your guns and by doing the job as it should be done, then you might get yours scrapped and redone again. :thumbup But beware, the planners will want your help, and as you have had all this time to twist the walks to how you want them, don't give them all YOUR ways of working. Save a little back for a breather half way round.
I married my wife for her looks, but not the one she gave me when i said i was going to be a postman.

Be careful ashadd.
Royal Mail are looking for another 5% savings this year.

They are "revisiting" some revisions on the basis of taking more hours out,not putting any in.
Make sure you know the terms of reference for the revision before you start and it doesn't involve the words "efficiency savings" or "budgetary alignment".

I had this same conversation with our DSM in January and 5 minutes into the meeting it became obvious that it wasn't about revisiting issues,it was about removing hours so he was told thanks but we'll pass.

The union has no agreement on dealing with savings proposals for 2013/14 so any attempt to remove hours should be subject to the IR Framework.
They are con artists.

He will be putting more hours in, they have to. We were running at 100 bsi but he now wants to move it to 85 bsi and also change the model week.I knowin the future they will come back for more, because they will still want 100 bsi , but untill then make hay , as they say. Also because the have admitted it was a total feck up, there is no way on earth they can try and bully or harass us.

He will have to get that past the DSM and the Regional Finance Director.
It might be the last thing he does in your office.

What you might find they are willing to do is take the overspend(cut offs and excess) due to the mess your office is in and re-invest it into proper duties.
That is the sensible thing to do,this will increase your core budget without increasing the overall office spend.
In that case what you have to hope and pray is that there are no halfwits covering up failings by starting early and not taking their breaks.

Be careful with the whole new model week thing, traffic is allegedly down and so is the overall model week but it's only sequenced that's down, packets are up and they have a much larger affect on indoor workload.
When choosing model weeks always pick the one with the highest packet stream.

we had a revision, not working when busy, said another revision will be done at somepoint soon, but have also heard they want to take out more hours, so be careful.

We have got runners and early starters which is a worry because at the end of it there will be a repack, and I am sure some will continue to kill the jobs that they are on now but there is nothing that can be done to stop them, believe me the rep and I have tried. But yes it has been passed so it should be starting soon and using proper packet counts and not an average...watch this space. :thumbup

They have started on another revision at our office as the current one is a disaster, only took them two years to realise it too! Got a planner working on it that has never delivered a letter in his life so it will probably worse than the last one. At the end of it there will be another resign. If they change my walk for the better I will lose it, if they don't I will be stuck with the monster. Guess it's one of those situation that I just can't win! :arrrghhh
Union what Union? Do we have a union?

All this taking hours out of the office, we have Lino's throwing off and the DOM sorting packets. Should they be doing this??
We also have half our posties coming in 30-60 minutes early saving the office hours there as well.
They can't see what they are doing and will soon moan when more hours are cut.
If they came in at their normal start time and cut off they wouldnt cut hours

No.
One of the main problems with the revisions is the failure to understand what the office performance actually is at the start.
This is why we have offices apparently with EP of 120 or 245 in one case. And these are the upper decile everyone else has to try and emulate.
If you don't understand the baseline, you can't understand what progress you can make.
DOMs doing OPG work, early starts, no meal relief, failure to claim/pay overtime and PCOD - all this f***s with the figures.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

A rep was saying that one office was somehow achieving over 300 BSI on some days according to the iwt but were spending nearly 500 hours pressure overtime a week.

We're going through another revision, more duties put back in. Up to 10 FTC p/timers been made up to F/T permanent. Other P/T had hours increased. Just need to beg for more vehicles
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

But if you run out of time cut off! They can still pick there kids up if there normal finish time allows it. In my old DO the early starters were the ones who just wanted to get home early.
