Our office has 8 cameras in and has for years.
A fellow postie says they are not active because no signs are displayed in the office saying CCTV recording in operation.
I say total and utter bull.
Why should Royal Mail display signs saying you are being recorded? They are there and should be in constant use,What is the point them being there otherwise?
Got me thinking though because a few people always bring mail back and stick it with pre sorted stuff for the next day and never have they been pulled.

Ours only get switched on when IB are in watching someone.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet

Re: Settle an argument re CCTV
Don't think there is any legal requirement for signs in this situation, as it is not in an area where the public are. There are 2 types of camera in use at RM, some are there only for RM to watch it's employees, not for security, the other more visible ones are for security and deterrant/recording of crime purposes(by none RM persons).
I have also been told that the 'staff only' cameras are only switched on when IB are watching someone. But I always assume they are on. Then, if you're not doing anything wrong, what does it matter?

I thought the same regarding signs,I think its daft just putting them on when watching someone,Just leave them on constantantly.

Code of Practice - For the Use of CCTV & Disclosure of images obtained from CCTV systems
This Code of Practice applies equally to new and existing buildings/sites.
General
CCTV systems are not to be used by Operational Managers to monitor the general
conduct or performance of staff in normal pursuance of their duties.
CCTV may be set for routine continual video recording. Images captured by any CCTV system will only be analysed or used by RML Security. The only exception to this would be where a serious accident has occurred or where a serious act of misconduct is identified and employees security or health and safety has been put at risk e.g. criminal damage, reckless
driving, blocking of a fire exit.
In these instances there will be no responsible alternatives other than to analyse/use any relevant images captured or seen.
Requests for the release/use of images or recordings by users or managers other than RML Security must be submitted through the National Physical Security Manager or deputy for consideration and endorsement where they agree release is appropriate.
Crime Prevention/Detection
RML Security may use any system for direct observation or analysis when criminal activity is known or suspected, ensuring compliance with all current legislation and business standards.
CCTV may be used as a crime prevention measure to assist access control, intruder confirmation, perimeter protection, or to monitor high value operations or installations such as safes and strong rooms.
Operational managers or supervisors will not be given access to, or the use of investigative CCTV systems for normal pursuance of operational duties.
Access/Site Security
Where CCTV is installed to provide access control, site security, and perimeter protection, monitors will be manned/watched at all times by Gatekeepers/Doorkeepers or Reception duties as appropriate

Re: Settle an argument re CCTV
you will be surprised to know most cameras cctv are activated by motion.I wished i had used the footage as evidence when my then dim and his sacking partner lied about what time i went home 10 minutes early .Good job the weather was bad then"worst weather in 30years" and the fact i had a text that morning from my wife asking me if i could get her to train station as her terminally ill Mothers condition had deteriorated over night .Little did i know the two low life managers chose to use it to there advantage to dismiss me for "Wilful Delay"these are the most spineless people ive come across in my life.I really hope they eventually get what they deserve.

cameras maybe on or off that is why they are effective we do not know if they are recording our actions. Never heard or known any cameras activated by motion detector

If the cameras are activated by motion, they wouldn't record much in my office.

As i was key holder for office i can confirm when they ran g me they new exactly where the problem was .Which would tell me that alarms cctv cameras are activated by motion.Having a little bro as a Spark he confirmed my suspicions.

Site security and perimeter protection cameras in some sites may be motion sensitive.parcelboy wrote:Which would tell me that alarms cctv cameras are activated by motion.
Internal security cameras are not.
It would be kind of pointless.
They are generally not on all the time but they may be and you have no way of telling when they are on.
As a rule the POID room must have separate access away from your main entrance to allow POID access to the building without being seen.
If something is flagged up either to POID directly or to your manager they pop in and turn on the cameras,Since you won't know about any of this until a couple of guys are escorting you off the premises you're just as well assuming the cameras are always watching.
