on tuesday posties in our office were told instead of wtl we could fill in the have your say forms instead, however 2 of us decided we would prefer to do ours at home which is in the agreement with royal mail and the cwu. But we were told by our line manager we could do them at home but would have to stay in the room for half an hour but the others were free to get back to their preps ect as soon as they had done their forms . so you can imagine how fast they were done by the rest of them i just wonder what the motive behind this instruction was ? as someone spending 10 mins or so to complete their forms wouldnt of put much thought about the answers they were putting down so in my opinion without giving proper thought to the questions . everyone was in and out asap BUT myself and another were made to stay away from our work for the full half hour so were treated different to the others that surely is not fair or right. anyone got any thoughts on the matter. ?????????. UPDATE next day another manager in the same section asked a postie who was off tues to do his form he replied i will do it at home and the manager said thats fine. he didnt have to sit in a room for half hour. also union rep was handed his by assistant dom also said he would take it home again no problem and no half hour detention

No it's not fair or right. Personally, I would have said if there is no WTLL I will be leaving to do my job. If they said no, I have left to speak to the DOM (assuming he wasn't the one carrying out this stunt). Trouble is, something like this is filled with issues. Could you count on your colleagues as witnesses? If not, there would have been no telling what they may have done next. A while back, my colleagues and I were asked to stay back and sort, me and another lad refused and left. The day after, the boss let everybody go, but said us 2 had to stay 5 minutes as we 'had gone early yesterday'. I pointed out we hadn't, we'd gone on time, and left. He then, at his first opportunity, conduct coded me on something unrelated.

Quite obviously, they weren't happy with your decision, and just wanted to punish you. They acted like children. Simple as.

Just another brain dead manager trying to exert his seniority and power over you. I wouldn,t worry as he will have to pay you for doing absolutely nothing for 30 minutes.

what a load,send a letter to the area manager explain what happened and ask him for the reasons why the office manager wasted 30 minutes of royal mails time doing nothing.

Well, it kind of is, he only did what he did because you quite rightly said you would fill it in at home and put it in a postbox. Which would mean that, if he was so inclined, he couldn't open the envelope and read it. If you're so inclined, ask for an explanation, go above his head. But be prepared for a backlash.

they are trying to force you because a negative response they can live with but a zero return they can not spin so for me i would either tell him you dont want to fill it in and leave or pretend to fill it in and write nothing

I've been off sick for just short of a year and I've received my form to fill in. What can I say I can't even remember who I work with and what I used to do!!

if they made you stay for the full half hour then,make sure you leave the office after everyone else and tell them you could not complete.play by their rules
