Runners beware...

A couple of weeks ago in our office , we were getting lots of briefs about doorstepping. Anyway a couple of our runners who work as a pair , obviously thaught this didn't apply to them, so they carried on.As usual they they were doorstepping and putting large packets, oops parcels into blue bins, only this time one went missing.It was either the guy whos parcel it was or a neighbour saw them and stole it. Either way the guy whos parcel it was , said that if they paid him the sixty quid for the contents ,it was a present for his missus, he wouldn't report it.They paid him the £60,....there is a god....

What you have to understand when you doorstep is how the compensation system works.
If it gets nicked,your customer might not complain to RM,especially if you've just dumped it at the back door without leaving a card because they won't even know you've been but they will contact the sender for a replacement/refund.
The sender will then raise a compensation claim with RM.

The first time this happens you might not even know about it but if it happens two or three times on your delivery what you might find is that you are under suspicion,not for doorstepping but for theft.

Never dooorstep anything, not even when instructed to by a boss (I have been told to in the past, asked for it in writing, he refused, so did I), if not in P739. Not worth it. Especially at £60 a pop. As fishtank said, if multiple items go missing, it won't be long before it's flagged up to IB (or whatever they're called now), you will then be surveilled, and even though you're not stealing, they will still dismiss you for doorstepping (failure to safeguard mail). Don't give them the rope with which to hang you, they are trying to cut staff, don't help them.

personally mate i would be quite happy for idiots like them to get sacked instead of the poor gits getting hasselled for doing their job properly.

You can go on for a long time doing favours for people but it only takes just one time to come round and bite you in the ass.
The customer might not mean to do it or some might try it on but it may end up with you and your p45---iv'e witnessed it!!
Don't do favours, it's hard but you have got to protect yourself.

This story pops up every so often,the first time I saw it ,it was £20..it's an urban myth believed by extremely stupid people.

Trust me.....this aint no myth. I only knew about it because one of the guys is a good mate, and he wanted to borrow £30 to pay half towards his partners mistake....oh how I still take the piss.. .and yes I did lend him the money, but I didn't know what for until he paid it me back.

I kind of agree. I don't really want anyone to lose their job, but if someone did in this manner, I wouldn't be sympathetice towards them, it is entirely their own fault. Was also trying to say thet if they stopped their incorrect ways of working, and joined in with those of us who do our job properly, it wouldn't just be their job they're protecting, but ours as well, as less hours could be cut out.

As the number of parcels increase so naturally will the number of complaints.
Managers with a high number of complaints will get bollocked.
They won't like that and will look to make an example....
Whining about doing the customer a favour won't save anybody's job.

Had to attend 2 fact finding interviews this week due to 2 people doorstepping. I've told so many people 'never leave anything', they may of done it as a favour for the customer for years but as soon as anything goes wrong you can guarantee the customer will drop you right in the s**t.
