ihr-repayment of monies

my mate was ihr against his wishes about 2 months ago. he is awaiting his appeal date. he has been told he is not entitled to dss benefits until april,,which means he is currently dipping into his retirement money. if he wins his appeal he will obviously have to pay back the ihr money they paid him. will he be paid whatever, in back pay from his dismissal date. ie. if he wins his appeal after lets say 3 months of unemployment, will he be paid 3 months back pay from royal mail,, or are the rules different for ihr.

Same thing happened at my old office,the person won a grievance related to their IHR which meant that they were reinstated,had to repay their IHR monies but was then backpayed their wages from the date of their IHR.I don't know if that always happens as in this case it was what the 3rd stage grievance manager that decided that that should happen.
