Trolleys

Post by cyrus_16 »

The start of our revision took place in our office 6 weeks ago and its been a farce. My duty is 0.93m from office and my finishing point is 1.15m, so thats a total of 2.08m traveling . Do I get a van for this? No, I have to push a crappy trolley to and from. There are two duties in the office that are 0.8m from office and they get a van to share. How exactly does that work? It takes me 18 mins to get to first delivery point and 22 minutes back. Planners credited me with 15 minutes there and 14 minutes back :hmmmm Ive since had a planner come out with me and he timed it correctly. In total im out most days for 4 hours 40 minutes.

How exactly is this meant to be a safer and easier way of working? I had my duty set up 9 years ago so I wouldn't be carrying heavy bags. Pushing a 90kg trolley in the wind is not safer or easier. The idiots who designed the trolleys and agreed to using them have just made my job harder than it already is. 6 weeks ago I was walking an average of 18 hours a week, now i'm walking 23.......

A few month ago I went to the doctors as I was having bother with my left foot, it was royal mails cheap and nasty shoes that was the problem. The doctor told me I had a bunion and that I had to get shoes that wouldn't irritate it. I got a pair (which has enraged my manager) and ATOS say ist fine to wear them, so I thought that would be the end of it. This extra 50 minutes a day is too much, my left foot is giving me grief. I'm going for a x ray on my foot next week to see how bad it is. Health and safety

Anyway I have a few questions on this subject since its all smoke and mirrors in my office.

Does the duty have to be a mile before getting a van?

If so then why does a duty which is closer to the office get one and not me?.

Is there a limit to the amount of time you spend each day walking?

Does the manager get any bonuses for getting in as many trolleys as possible?

Who's the guy that decides if a duty is a van or a trolley?

Can you refuse to use a trolley?

Does the duty have to be a mile before getting a van?

No..It's a planning guideline not the rule of god.

If so then why does a duty which is closer to the office get one and not me?.

Is there a limit to the amount of time you spend each day walking?

Not really, not anything that would help you anyway.

Does the manager get any bonuses for getting in as many trolleys as possible?

No but they are under pressure to keep the number of vans to a minimum.

Who's the guy that decides if a duty is a van or a trolley?

The planner, the rep,the manager, the H&S rep and the duty holder should all have input into the decision on which delivery method is most suitable.

Can you refuse to use a trolley?

Not on a particular duty but if you are having health issues caused directly from using it you may be able to move forward in that direction.
It may mean moving duties though.

Get them to re refer you to atos if you are covered under the dda you could use a lwt and get them to bring out drop bags. also i though trolley walks had to start and FINISH within a mile.

The planner and my manager have both said that it should be a van duty and I was never asked about any suitable methods of delivery, I was told its a trolley duty. The planner keeps saying its his boss that makes the decision. Who is his boss?

I had to argue with manager at the end of the week at time being owed, then when I got timed, he said I would get a street taken off. I would rather do the street and get dropped off in a van, than walk for 18 mins in shitty weather pushing a 90kg trolley that has a mind of its own.

As for ATOS, it looks like thats the route I will have to go down. They were fine about me getting a pair of suitable shoes, the women I spoke to couldn't have been nicer.
