Days off following sick leave....are they part of absence?

I'm in need of some clarification on this.

Here's the senario...Let's say i'm on sick leave Monday to wednesday....then the thursday is my scheduled day off for the week.

When i return to work on the Friday is it a 3 day absence or a 4 day absence?

If i feel better by wednesday lunch time should i phone to say i'm available for work on thursday even though it's my day off? or do i say i'm available for work thursday but want my day off and will be back friday?

Any advice will be appreciated.

As long as you ring in on Wedsnesday and say you're ready for work the following day, it is a 3 day absence, thurs will not count and they cannot make you work it, it's your scheduled day off.

thanks for the reply. so... just to check, if i ring in on Thursday to tell them i'll be returning to work friday they will count thursday as a sick day even though it's my day off?

yeah thats correct,,,,,,,,,,,,ALWAYS phone in the day before your day off,,,,,,or phone in on a saturday morning t tell them fit for a monday

cheers centenaryman, I'll deffo do that then. Bet this is something that catches loads of people out as Royal Mail don't seem to want to tell us the correct procedure. Obviously suits them to get our absence to be longer than it actually is..
