Offered IHR today

Hi there, this is my first post, and maybe my last I was offered IHR today with my last day of work on the 30th march 2013. Just wondering if anyone can tell me if I were to work into April, would Royal Mail have to pay me for my annual leave entitlement for the coming year? Cheers.

Nah, you'd have to work x amount per day of al entitlement. Say if someone took 1 weeks al at start of April,handed in 1 week notice then that week they wouldn't receive anything as they'd owe Royal Mail.

Yip, that makes sense I suppose. Trying to squeeze as much as possible out them. Would have preferred a vr but hey ho. Was due to get my 20 yrs service in may, but they obviously want me out before the turn of the financial year. 20yrs service and as soon as you need a little support, your out the door. Their concern for my condition is touching...not.

Sounds typical Royal Mail. We are just numbers mate, pieces of meat to be used and when god forbid we get ill or injured, well we can go to hell can't we.

When I was offered IHR,I had a chat with my manager on Wednesday 26th Sept 2012 and was told that the offer was on the basis that my last day was Friday 28th Sept 2012,was happy with what I was offered,signed the forms and left,couldn't get out of there quick enough.

Good luck in the future, I took IHR 14 months ago and loving it

The IHR payment is tax free but I am pretty sure the VR payment is taxed and you can't claim JSA either.

If over 55 it may be wise to take the RM pension, over my last few years the value dropped by more than I was paying in

the first £30K of VR is tax free. This figure may have increased, but that is what it was.

I think that is wrong, because in your first year you are not given paid leave if you take any.

You are actually earning your paid leave for the following year, so any leave taken in 2013 has been earned in 2012


I was told that IHR was calculated by time served, time to do, + 9 weeks pay in lieu of notice + holiday entitlement, only the holiday pay would be taxed, the average is 34weeks pay + 9 weeks in lieu+ holiday, which is about a years pay

I think that is wrong, because in your first year you are not given paid leave if you take any.

Yes you are - its sick leave you are not paid for

You are actually earning your paid leave for the following year, so any leave taken in 2013 has been earned in 2012

Thats not right all annual leave is accrued in the year you take it. IIRC its roughly 2.5 days per month
