Union rep told us manager has been goin round taking photos off vans parked at their home? My argument is some runs esp rurals don't have a restroom. I know by law it's ok to take photos in public. But surely this is all time low. 15 years in the job never been thought off!! Thoughts n opinions please??

When i started i thought the guy who trained me delivered to his own house because we always stopped there for a cup of tea.
Things have changed and personally i wouldn't go near my house during working hours.
If my duty didn't have welfare facilities i'd go back to the D.O....much safer that way.

Can they take photos?
Probably but it's a bit childish.
If they have a point to make they should make it and stop acting like an immature James Bond.

within the past couple of months it's been mentioned about using the vans to get home for lunch-breaks

Culling staff just for the record.I did something similar at a customers house ,a disgruntled neighbour (Victor Meldrew) rang in and complained i had been their fo x amount of time .Following day suspended .Dismissed 6 weeks later For yes that old chesnut "Wilful Delay" be warned i had20 yrs service clean record.

I know of several drivers who used to go back to the office before there duty ends and were sent out again doing the excess parcels ! Now instead they go home in the van , and then return to the office 15 mins before duty ends !!!

I would advise that going home, in an RM van , during duty hours, is a big no no. Years ago, you could get away with it, but these days, with things the way they are, the fact that they are now looking to cut staff, it's asking for trouble, and you would be, essentially, giving them the rope with which they can and will hang you. Just don't do it, if you need the toilet, and there are no public ones nearby (which these days is ever more likely), go back to the office. It is up to the planners to search out and put toilet stops in the duties, if they have failed in this and your manager hasn't corrected the 'oversight', they really have no right of complaint when your only recourse is to return to the office. Though they will have a go at you. Like it's your fault.

I understand ur points boys n girls. In what what read by law if u have more more than 2 photos of you then it's classed as harassment!!! I might be wrong it could be a scam to make you worry n not do it wi rumours on the workplace. Who knows!! I don't know about everyone else's office but If u ur do your hours n leave stuff out which is is the case recently u are bullied in a way that you are ignored in a nutshell (mind games) by management. By the way we are spoke to like dogs n school children in the 1970s when we have announcements. Can't wait for have your say!!!!

We had a postman who was going home to waste time and lets not use the old "I was just going to the loo" crap - in this case he was driving the van into the garage and closing the door - he was let go. In this current climate there is no way I would be going home, going off route, wasting time, shopping or any other excuse they could find to make a case against me. You're always going to get the smartarse who thinks they are bomb proof and I would say you reap what you sow.

Some years ago a colleague of mine picked up a speeding ticket in a town several miles from his delivery route and his excuse was he was Christmas shopping - nothing was said except "you shouldn't be doing that". Another colleague was picking up the Christmas turkeys for us from a farm, the road was icy, the van skidded and overturned in a field - they are both still employed now! Had either incident happened today neither would be working for RM. This isn't the family friendly employer of a decade or so ago, it's a predatory monster waiting for the careless or unwary dropping the ball.

if they want to sack you for going home early and they want evidence they'll do it. they collared a driver at ours a couple of months back. sat outside his house for half an hour before knocking on his door.

if there are young children around phone up police and say someone is taking photos and they roared off. Give the police a description.
