help,advise on unsuccessfull application

Hi.I've twice applied for 2 postman jobs with royal mail and both times failed after taking online talent q questionnaire and test.with the test I will have scored high as I found it quite easy but with the multiple choice questionnaire I have no idea how I did as you are given no feedback.I'm 40 years old and have been a bricklayer most of my working life.can any one give me any help in getting past this first stage please as I am really keen on becoming a postman.thanks

I was in the same position and had 4 unsuccessful applications from different DO's before I got an interview, even though I knew I'd done well in the online tests.

You basically have to start lying in the questionnaire and really big yourself up.

i was told there is always one key question in these online tests that is used to thin the candidates out,dont know how much truth is in this.

cheers,it would be nice to know what the question is.who is it who processes the application?royal mail or a recruiting agency.more help needed please.

Working for RM isn't that good. Don't pin your hopes on working for RM, keep looking elsewhere. If you are successful you may be in for a big surprise!!!!!

It is not nice job and it is very very hard work especially on Wednesday-Saturday. Doing it 5/6 days a week for 48 / 40 weeks (IF you do 6 days a week and week off every 6 weeks) a year is hard and we have to work in all weather conditions. I haven't see anyone who enjoy their job these days.

Okay the management do try to make a simple job as complicated as possible, but if you let the crap wash over you and carry on as you should. Then its still not a bad job, in fact its still the best job I've had.

I wouldn't be too worried with most job vacancies being oversubscribed by a factor of 10 or more, being unsuccessful in applying for one position doesn't mean you failed the test, but that they had already filled the post. I'd suggest just keep plugging away and apply for vacant positions as soon as possible.

The lifestyle no, but the craic is similar, the colleagues have the same outlook and sense of humour, stress is nothing compared to NI, FI or FRY, the politics is more interesting and I can be active politically if I want, on balance and at this stage in my life I would say I am better off in Royal Mail than if I was still serving the queen. It took me fifteen attempts to get an interview, it was quite soul destroying.

I think one of the main factors is how far you live from the vacancy. You may have passed the test but if there are others who have passed that live closer to the office, then they will get an interview before you.

Don't give up, keep at it and I'm sure it will happen.

I've been with RM since the beginning of the year and have to say, so far, I'm loving it. It's hard physical work on a town round.

I think the office you work in dictates how much you will/ will not enjoy the job. Ours is good, so I'm lucky.

Don't get dragged down by the doom and gloom merchants, stay away from then.

I agree on certain thing's but some things about my colleagues never fail to amaze me,how they will take your pouch bag's (the hook ones) rather than admit they have lost theirs,how they will steal your rubber bands rather than walk to the locker to get new one's,how they borrow my kill off stickers when my back is turned and forget to give them back,how they take your tray's when you aren't looking so I have to go and get some more,I come back off a weeks holiday and my redirection sticker's are almost used up,loads of kill off's piled up on the top shelf of the frame when I come back of holiday,as you say stress is nothing compared to Norn Iron,but I do get sick of constantly being questioned about why I am leaving stuff,the latest tactic they are using on me is to say that my name is being passed on to higher management and that the job might be to much for me,I never got anything like that in the Army so you might be lucky TBT,I do like the job it's just some of the asswipes I have to work with.
