Advice about special delivery items...

I do part of a town delivery on my walk delivering to jewellers and banks etc.Some days a certain jewellers can get up to 30 special delivery items. So on some days I can be taking out 40 plus specials on my first loop. Needless to say I am worried about taking this ammount. Is there any procedure or limit about how many specials we are allowed to take in one go?

High risk items should be delivered by van only. Are you motorised ?

Also for that sort of number of high value items your office should really have a van with a security box

Yes there is two of us in a van but we both go our separate ways to do the loops. I thought at least we should have a security box or some form of training if we got attacked or something. Just wondered if there was some procedure or guidelines I could enquire about.

Don't know about anything official, but a former manager of mine told me that for security purposes, I should never carry more than 4 specials at any one time, and that included the trip from the van to the customer.

Yes there is and you need to speak to your Rep to clarify the numbers - it isn't exactly hard and fast and depends on a few factors - there is also a maximum weekly number but as I say have a word with your Rep - the guy in the locker should have a list - I work in the locker but I haven't seen a list in some time but I know nobody goes out with excess specials, which has been falling for some time with the advent of T&T, but I think that walkers can carry a maximum of 8 with no more than 5 high value - for vehicles it's different.

I regularly deliver 5/6 SDs to my local sub-post office, which contain currency for exchange. I never think twice about it but I suppose someone (criminally minded) could always order loads in with the knowledge that I'd be carrying it a few days later.
