Mis delivered special.

Post by Tank »

I was on parcels last week and delivered a special to the wrong address. Two different courts within 100 meters of each other! Similar addresses! So knocked asked the guy if it was his parcel? Yep no probs. signs for it off I go.

Today manager had a complaint that special not turned up. So I explain where I delivered it. Dom goes round and the special is still there at the wrong address unopened!! He retrieves it back and delivers it at the correct address. Signed for and received!

He says if the customer doesn't want compensation etc then know more will be said. But if he complains further then it could lead to a possible dismissal!! I'm a bit worried now! Was a genuine honest mistake and the customer now has the parcel unopened and undameged! What do you guys think?

A genuine mistake (courts or flats can look similar sometimes and sometimes we are on auto-pilot) and no harm done in the end. Certainly cannot lead to a dismissal if you have not done so before...

A ticking off at best and not even something that should be a big deal. However, the manager might want to 'own' you; for a while, at least.

Good luck

Been here 15 yrs and first time I've done something like this. Only 5 weeks into park and loop so everyone's a little stressed. Was a really busy day.

I agree with Chris , it was a genuine error and hes probably right , the manager might be asking you for "favours" ie covering ot or failed loops

The customer can complain about late delivery but the sender is the one who receives compensation for the postage - and that's it. The discovery of the unopened packet was a stroke of luck and as the DOM retrieved it and has already spoken to you - case closed - RM will have to stand the cost of the postage if the sender claims!

You honestly delivered it to a wrong address and the recipient was willing and did sign for it. You have not breached any condition of your employment. You have made a human error which anyone including your DOM is quite capable of making. If dismissals are now going to be made on the basis of human error, then I am afraid Royal Mail will have no workforce left to sack in a very short space of time. The DOM is an asshole.
