I started as a postie 19 years ago,I remember if you had 3 bags it was a bad day,Tuesdays and saturdays we mostly just 1 bag and that included packets.

As the years have gone on the volume of mail has gone up without doubt,Because they tell us D2D Are classed as mail,So now we have more than ever.

More mail,More packets,More bullshit spouted at us from the Top,I hate what the Firm has become,Liars and Bullys and thats just the management.

I counted how many door knocks i had on saturday,51 in total,11 tracked,7 recorded,5 specials,28 packets 5 lots of D2D (121 Per Day) and they expect me to complete in 4 hours 15 mins and take 15 minutes collapse off another delivery!! Just f**k right off.

lets not forget that walks have been extended to what they were so obviously these longer duties mean more bags. Still, I think its hard to say mail is actually down, i dont notice much if any difference to 10 years ago and also substantially more than 20+ years ago

Totally agree 19 yrs ago u werent under half the pressure as you are now ,but 19 yrs ago u would have had maybe 50 posties in office now u have 40 posties doing same amount of work .Its the only business i know where the managers are telling us the mail has been going down for the last 25yrs , yet there bonuses are going up strange that well not really .

Yep it's like a mantra from management and from up high with that bullshit propaganda paper The Courier. If they say it so many times I suppose some people will be battered into submission and actually believe them a bit.

As postman, we are delivering more now than any postmen have in the history of Royal Mail. What credit do we get for this? f**k all. We get told we are rubbish, that we aren't doing enough, that we need to absorb more prep, that we need to absorb other people's rounds (thus costing people more jobs). The thing that annoys me the most is that a lot of posties are too weak/bothered to do anything about it, so they just go along with it. Pair that up with our non-existant union reps and you have a recipe for us lot being royally screwed over.

Remember, next time your manager asks you to absorb on a busy day, just say NO.

Are overall mail volumes down on 10 years ago?...yes.
Is the volume of mail each individual OPG delivers down...no.
There are just less of us delivering to more houses.

spot on, plus a spike in the credit boom circa 2000-2007? loads of Bank loan, mortgage offers, credit card offers going on, with trays of letters for each walk. those offers have reduced from that 5 year or so spike?

Mail going down is one of the biggest lies Royal Mail tells. Horrific amount of flats and parcels lately. Never ending supply of d2d shite - fecking catalogue size crap this week
I don't think the level of mail has dropped since i started 15 years ago. Parcels have definetley increased along with recordeds. I had 11 on Sat and 4 specials. Plus X amount of parcels.

Royal mail say the internet has been the worst thing to happen to the company i.e more emails but i remember emptying my parcel sack 17 years ago and i would have 3 or 4 packets at most i dont have to say anything else!

It must be very near time for council tax bills to go out, any council sent them out yet?

Technically a fair few of what MCs send to DOs as packets should be sent to DOs at flats but them you'd only get about a half dozen in each box.

Things like bills and statements I don't think we'll ever get back from DSA, if anything they'll probably go online.

Just wait until you have to scan every single last item on a pda (the RMTV last week hinted that everything will eventually be trackable)

I had a WTLL session a couple of weeks ago, we were informed that in April RM is changing it packet products, and that within 4 years, customers will have the option to track every item. This is what customers want, according to RM reaearch, and is why we have lost some business to other companies.

I wouldn't be surprised in Amazon are one of the first bigger customers to go for that. Probably won't be long before all business mail is Tracked apart from anything that is real cheap. Locally it would probably mean that some runs to DOs could end up being all Tracked.

When the option for Packet Post Returns going via Tracked goes live, some DOs are probably going to see an increase in Tracked (do Amazon returns get sent direct to Amazon from the nearest MC or from the nearest DO?)
