Addressed D2Ds - The Domino Effect

We had a ton of what are basically addressed D2Ds this week. Virtually every address on a loop I delivered yesterday had a card from Domino's addressed to 'the pizza lover'. Gave me a bit of a problem as I had to deliver to every single address on the loop, quite unusual really as even when there are D2Ds not every address has to be visited (especially on a Friday). I'm not sure that the effect on delivery times has been considered by anyone higher up the food chain. If this trend spreads to other distributors of marketing material the controls we have in place with respect to managing D2Ds go out of the window and although mail volume might not appear to be high the expectation that we don't have to deliver to every address also goes out of the window.

I wonder whether anyone knows if this is likely to become a trend (even if only Domino's do it again it's going to be painful) and if so has there been any thought to spreading the load by only allowing a certain amount of them through at a time? If not I can see them causing problems with respect to cutting off etc when people realise what an effect they have on overall delivery times.

It doesn't matter. We have a mythical call rate of 82% which is what our duties are calculated at. It doesn't matter to RM that the true figure is nearer 95% some days...

This has always happened. In the good old days when we had a 3 D2D cap, if a company really wanted the their advertising materials to go that particular week, or weren't willing to wait until there was an available gap for it to go as a D2D, then they addressed them and paid for MS3. The main difference now is that, in the past, we could take 2 or 3 days to deliver MS3, now it is a clear frame policy. Everything goes. This is why more and more people cut off. They're fed up of working long hours, delivering mail the company insists doesn't even exist, as volumes are dropping.

we had these from domino`s,,,,but from what i remembered they were eith franked or at least stamped mail,,,nothing like or to do with door to doors,,,,,our dom gives us a couple of days to post em when things like that come in,,,,but we still lapse LOL

Same at our delivery office. It can be a right bastard when you're hitting nearly every single door on a big delivery.

A bulk mailing is a bulk mailing, doesn't matter if it looks like a door to door. For me the worst culprit is the council or local housing authority. They pick the worst possible days to send a letter to every single house. Why on earth can't they be spread over a week? Can't the council and Royal Mail work together?

??? Once the mail reaches the inward MC (your local MC) it's ALL 1st class
