My P/L colleague for the day had to leave early due to family problem and it was OK'd by the DOM.
The DOM asked if I could finish it off which I said I would.
I only booked 45 mins even though it was a big loop and the DOM said this week he isnt paying me "as I did it for a favour"
How tight is that, next time I look like going over by 40 mins I'm cutting off

No mention of a `favour`. So it is either overtime or he was tricking you into being in charge of a van + mail while OFF DUTY. Serious offence on DOMs part. Fill in a 552 with the overtime on it and staple it to a grievance form addressed to him.

Before you go off on one find out if your partner was paid the full shift or docked the time for finishing early.
If he was paid then fair enough,it was a favour for your partner,not your Dom.
If he was docked that time then make sure you get paid,involving the union if necessary.

I can't agree with this unless the partner actually asked him to complete. It is ultimately the responsibility of Royal Mail to deliver mail and as it's representatives the DOM took the decision to make the request ... but when this request was made it should have been made clear under what terms the work should have been done and it's here that custom and practise in the unit may be the deciding factor. If the DOM has pulled a fast one he has lost goodwill if there was a mis-understanding for the sake of less than a hours docket then I would suggest the DOM should authorise payment ... it really is about principle rather that payment and setting guidelines that apply to everyone.

I understand and partly agree with your position however if pushing for payment of the overtime simply results in your partner being docked the equivalent amount of pay as Royal Mail are entitled to do then i think most members would accept the position of doing their partner a favour rather than see their wages short.
No matter what the management tactics are still poor and short-sighted.
