Let the daily workload dictate what you do, if its light enough to finish within your duty then do so. If its too heavy to finish within your working hours and you don't want the o/t tell them you're not able/ willing to work past your time.
If the managers are twats they may start throwing spurious reasons at you as to why you "must" finish delivering all the mail.
Remember what they say and inform your rep or area rep as to your treatment if they try bullshitting you.
There is an interpretation of a passage in your contact that managers use to convince you o/t is compulsory. It's not.
They ask you to take everything out and phone them if you look like you won't finish on time, only for them to not answer the phone when you try and contact them.
They may try to blackmail you using any excuse, be prepared to report their behaviour.
Good luck.

Get yourself a little diary and when a manager makes any kind of suggestion pull out the diary and write something down,it doesn't matter if it's your shopping list it will freak them out.

Remember in these situations managers usually have no idea what they are talking about,If you say something, anything with enough confidence they will bottle it.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Dont get angry. When telling the manager your cutting off, first ask for help to finish the duty on time if none is available let him know you wont be able to finish on time. Be nice, real nice tho cos its the niceness they dont know how to handle.

Make sure you have a rep or colleague with you when you are telling dom you can't complete.

Be prepared for the s**t that will come your way with threats of individual performance testing (which they may do) and comparisons to others that complete even though they may start early, be much younger, not take a break etc etc.
Be as nice and polite as you can be but above all be calm and assertive in a non threatening way.
Good Luck

Initially I wrote to my Lino and informed him that as from a specific date I was no longer prepared to do overtime and would he therefore take this into account in his weekly resourcing meetings with the cwu rep. As you can imagine, these never take place as they bungle through from one day to the next. However by doing this you are making them pre aware that on high workload days they will need to cover part of your walk, and it makes the phone call to him less intimidating.
