Me and a mate thought we will work together on van share. He is about 25 places below me on seniority. Someone above me signed for my walk. Which meant if I wanted my round I would have to sign for the other duty (his old walk) I signed for it and now he is peed off. I cant see why I should sacrifice the duty I wanted just to keep the peace. Just feel a bit s**t at the mo

I didnt mean to upset him. If I had signed first. There would have been no guarentee he would have got the other half anyway. I wanted to work with him but I wanted my walk as well I didnt eant to sign for something else and be on a walk I didnt really want so as not to upset anyone

The chances of you being paired together at all with 25 places between you was pretty slim from the start.
Once he realises that he'll be fine...or he won't.

once he's found out that all the walks are as equally s**t , and 25 places above on the seniority means f**k all these days ,he'll be fine about it

One couple in my office wanted to work together on P & L but one was much higher seniority than the other. So he chose to drop down the seniority list to be one in front of his wife. He then knew what pairings were available when it was her turn to sign and they could then work together.

Depends how much you wanted to work with your mate I guess. But would he drop down the list just so you two could work together if he had the higher seniority.... probably not! So don't sweat it as he'll get over it!

If the situation had been reversed, would he have NOT signed for 'his' duty, just so he could work with you? Would he have picked a less appealing walk or would he have left you high and dry? Genuine questions, not having a dig at your friend.

Could you not have combined your seniority? I think they will allow it in our office when the dreaded time comes.

Not under any existing agreement we have.
In order to use this system you would need the agreement of every single member in your office,not a majority vote but every single member since you would be working without the protection of a nationally agreed framework..
You would probably also need to inform Branch and HQ and get the OK from them.
You can't just play fast and loose with collective agreements and make up stuff as you go along.

Many years back i had a great duty which had firms attached so needed some training. I postie that i had known for years who was just 3 months senior to me ask to be trained up to be my holiday cover. We got on great.

A few months later we had the yearly re-sign and he told me that i should not worry as he would not take my round.

Sure enough when the sheet got to me there was his name by the duty.

Thats just how it goes.

We have been told that we can do this,however our revision is very much stop-start at the moment so perhaps the option won't be given.

Whenever there is a repick, you're only option is to look after yourself, to do what is best for you so your job fits in with the rest of your life. Everybody should be aware of and accept this. Who in their right mind would shaft themselves just so they don't upset someone else? Why don't people understand the basic principle of the process?

We just had a resign and I was moaned at by a bloke who is near the bottom of the seniority list because I took 'his duty'.

After trying to explain that, in a revision, no one has a duty and it falling on deaf ears, with him asking why I 'took' his job, I merely said "Well, it's not your job. It's mine, isn't it". And just left him to whinge to some other poor unfortunate.
