At my do office we are on park an loop an have been for a year using pdas. Today I had a special delivery it was a letter which I signed for at the locker then gave it to my partner as it was on his duty he put it in with the mail. I forgot about it an posted it I didn't reliase until i was on my way home so i called at the house with an old white signiture card to try an get them to sign for it but no one was home what should i do.

I don't understand. Did you sign for it yourself then post it? Or was it in a bundle and you posted it without getting a signature? I am guessing you posted it without a signature in which case just admit it was an accident to your boss, explain what happened. I did this by mistake and everything was ok was just told to inform locker it was delivered without signature. As long as person recieved it it is not a problem.

Not a big deal but I'd mention it to a manager as it'll probably show up as not delivered come monday, so they'll ask what's happened to it. Might aswell get in their first but really it shouldnt be a problem.

Yeah I gave it my partner it was on his duty but on one of my loop I should of kept hold of it but i just didn't think.

I think I get it! It was a letter on your partner's walk.round but it was on a loop that you deliver (regularly). The fault is still yours for delivering it.

The problem is that some people like to collect their Special before leaving and then incorporate the specials (esp letters) into the mail. There is always going to be a risk that it might be delivered even if the letter was turned or marked with pen; with the amount of d2ds and/or sheers numbers of letters in some cases, it is easy to miss 'a special' in that way.

For me, the problem is working with other people that choose to do things the wrong way (IMO). Specials and Tracks should always be separated and worked from a tray/box as you go along. Given that you are likely going to be delivering someone else's prepped mail, it is easy to miss things. In some cases, it is forgetting that a special letter is there until way past 1.00pm.

I work with some oldies that seems to do this - annoying but we all have to work together...

I agree they should be kept separate unless you are definitely gona remember it. Bad news posting it, but s**t happens!

This is the kind of thing that happens when responsibility for a walk is divided all over the place. And trying to explain this isn't your walk but it is your loop, etc to the public requires a diagram (maybe the WCM doodlers could help out with that). I though it was bad enough in the pre-revision when an FT would prep my walk and put in all the recorded letters and then I'd find out I didn't have enough signature cards.

If I sign for a SD (or a tracked) then I'm keeping it with me until it's delivered, keep them separate and deliver them the same way and you wont forget about them.

After owning up you can always knock at the address on Mon and see if they still have the enverlope. If so get them to sign on a card and return that to the office as a ref. Dont scan it on the PDA though.

Myself & my loop partner always place a blank P739 card in front of the registered item if it's small enough to be incorporated into a bundle; same with tracked/recorded/signed for items that don't necessarily have the orange flash to alert you that the item requires a signature. Simple but effective .

On the odd occasion that I have posted a recorded without signature, I have written across the signing card 'Delivered in error without signature' and just handed in as normal. Never had any come back. Dont think they ever get analysed by anyone.

Biggest problem would be if recipient contacts at a later date and says "wheres my special ?, haven't got it didn't sign for it"
