"Forced" overtime.

Need URGENT PRACTICAL advice here...not the first time its occurred:
Asked to work certain hours, and then...find out that there's no one to cover locker, securing the building/safe, mail conveyance etc once your agreed hours are done.
So, you're left holding the baby...keys in this case...and anyone you've texted/phoned doesn't reply after various attempts.
You are LITERALLY left to it by yourself. ( Thought there were Directives on Lone Working...but that's another issue.)

So, if I lock the building/go home at my AGREED TIME, all returning posties are locked out with PDA's, Recorded and Special N/A's and van keys and their personal belongings are inside the building.
BUT...If I stay on and do Unwanted, Unagreed and Enforced Overtime, this affects any plans I have post-work...and totally pisses me off, excuse the French!
I can well imagine the mud that will fly if I took the option of Locking Up and Going, whatever. The consequences/repercussions would be mind-blowing no doubt.

I suspect that when I approach anyone next week, it will be, "Oh, we thought XYZ were relieving you but ABC happened and so couldn't."
Being put in an unwanted position doesn't give you any faith in Tactical or Task planning, and makes you resent being put upon, once again.

Whats the OFFICIAL POLICY/GUIDELINES, if any exist...what RIGHTS do I have to refuse to be dragged into this situation in the future?

You could just say "I'm sorry but if XYZ doesn't turn up to relieve me at X time,I will be locking up and going home"!

Apparently...It was an "oversight/mistake" and I just had a TXT to apologise for the inconvenience and problems it caused, so this goes someway to heal the wounds, but..
I KNOW it will happen again...soon.
And, locking up before your staff are back...what am I gonna face Monday AM??

INFORM UR MANAGER IN FRONT OF A WITNESS U WILL BE FINISHING ON UR TIME AND IF THERE IS NO 1 THERE TO TAKE OVER U WILL LOCK UP AND GO HOME THAT PUTS THE BALL IN HIS COURT HE IS PAYED TO MANAGE LET HIM MANAGE IT AS U WILL OF MADE IT CLEAR WHAT UR GONNA DO.

I used to be "last man standing" every Saturday pre revisions - my finish time was 1315 after the last lift to the MC at 1300 - the duty incorporated the locker and I told everyone be back no later than 1245 or the gates will be locked, if you're later than 1315 leave your van et al outside and drop your keys in the box at the gate. There was odd occasions when I relented if someone rang to say they had a problem other than that.....................the gate was locked and I suggest you do the same - they will soon find a solution because they won't want to stay.

i think you may be slightly making a rod for your own back, seem to remember you asking recently about getting paid Leadership Allowance, if you getting paid this allowance then i would think that you would been seen to be taking on some of the responsibility for the office, so when a unforseen problem like this arises then you would either be alerting the DOM or if un contactable then trying to get by with some common sense and unfortunately that would more than likely either be locking up yourself at the correct time or ensuring there was someone there to do it,

personally would tell then your not interested in the reponsibility and get someone else to take the allowance

zxi35...Correct, I'm NOT interested in working over 40 of a years Saturdays. Only there's "apparently" no one else. I've not been trained Officially on the PHG, or PDA and have NEVER had the 1 in 6 weekends others have...Never...just want a fair crack of the whip, thats all. Enforced weekend working...has been for years.

Additionally,someone who's recently done the PHG training was told, "We don't need you for weekends from now on..." Erm, why, when they've done the Official training?
