hi all time for another rant

our office is almost 2 yrs into revision and while union rep and planners try to fix the problems we have we still have people coming in early, not taking breaks, not useing trolleys, running around to complete their duties, cutting corners all the time for what ?????????? . we have people come in an hour early, working extra every day how on earth can you plan for that ?. managers are happy for the workforce not to use trolleys as long as all mail is delivered they dont give a f**k. management say TROLLEYS MUST BE USED but know full well that trolleys are not being used. they know that if trolleys were used very very few of the deliveries would be completed same reason why a blind eye is turned to people not taking breaks only time the insist breaks be taken before leaving the office is if they are told wont be completing or working to time . its time managment were made to manage therefor we could get the real readings of time deliveries take. a good start would be to stop people coming in early so come on cwu insist on this to be the case all over the country and that will show the revisions DO NOT WORK. rant over

It's a difficult situation and one we did see coming unfortunately.
The more a revision fails the more pressure management are under to "fix" the situation quickly.The problem with that is that Royal Mail's desperation to up the pace of revisions going in meant that especially with the early revisions but even now the minute the revision went live the planners disappeared to start on the next failure.

So management were faced with a failing revision,no real clue how to fix it,pressure from above to cut costs and no planning resource to properly address the revision problems.On the union side we had reps and branches mostly out of their depth not through their own fault but through lack of training and the generally unnecessarily over-complicated revision tools.

For a lot of managers especially the poor ones the only thing they could think of doing was turning on the staff,blaming them for the failure and using intimidation and threats to pressure members into starting early,skipping breaks and working for free.
This has inevitably led to an increase in Bullying and Harassment but on the flip side also an increase in bad practice as members scramble desperately to stay off management's radar and in their eyes at least protect their jobs.

This obviously doesn't apply to everyone,we've always had idiots who come in early trying to score time but the difference is now if you look around your office the number has increased and very few are now actually making any real time.

They are trying to hide which is sad and partly down to the insecure job market,partly the fault of the union and it's lack of urgency in protecting members at local,area and national level but mostly down to the overall poor level of management at Royal Mail from line manager all the way up to the top.

On planning our revision the planners said they would be around for 6 weeks after its complete so don't worry if we have any concerns..

They buggered off the day they finished and NEVER came back

Im one of the few that has the courage to tell the managers im dropping.
For instance on friday i told them the best thing for me to do was leave all packets that wouldnt fit through the letter-box and 2 loops of mail. Manager was fine with it.
Later he got me a transit van and an extra bloke to make sure all mail was delivered, we still left all the packets tho.
So that was that, the only way we could complete the delivery was by using 3 in a van.

We've no went thru any crap revision yet ,,what happens if you're out on delivery and its finishing time ,,do ya just go home ? As going back to the office will result in going over you're time ,and overtime doesn't interest me . We know nothing about this revision ,park n loop etc. but it's happening in a few weeks time !
