Family Friendly gone Bad...

Alrite fellas, looking for a bit of input.

A bit of background first. I have had my first child ( not personally!) and i now have had to alter my finish time.

I have also been put on a new walk - one of the very few that are a cycle duty ( Tristar failed) which is closer to the office after discussing my options when i first told them about my new arrival.

I have done this walk for about 3 weeks and this week is where issues have arose due to the sorters being on far to late in my opinion ( i will be asking the union rep if there's an agreed cut off time on the ips)

Today i got collared by a Lino going out because there was mail in the ips holes and a few packets in a bag due to the sorters being kept on till gone 9am

I had a word basically saying if i don't get out now i wouldnt make it back for 1pm (new finish time) due to the walk taking 3.5 hrs or thereabouts.

He just said it can't carry on blah de blah and we'll have to sit down next week to discuss it

Any thoughts or is my little Daughter going to have to look after herself - she's 17mths old.

If your finishing time is at 1pm then only take out what you can deliver to that time.
It's not up to you to manage the business. Just deliver the mail. Get the manager to sort it out.

I do 36hrs so start at like 540 and 640 to make my hours up to that, the issue is the ips is taking far too long some days - past week has been a joke!

I will be having a chat with the union to see where i stand.

+1 If he/she want you to wait until everything is clear & youre out late then say you now can't complete your duty for 1pm so will be leaving some

You can't leave stuff behind on the IPS even if it's running late without management permission.
As pgtips says if they want you to wait give them something back but make sure you work to time.

Absolutely right. If we all did that. It would force them to do their jobs and stop using us to cut corners.

What do you suggest they do with the mail you leave in - pay someone overtime to complete it?

I presume you've had a revision and the work pattern has changed - and so must you.

Just wait until IPS is finished ... and you are finished and then assess what you can do witin your time. That's it really

I understand what he is saying in a sense however they really do take the piss with all the changes and then expecting you to go over in realilty.

I shall just clear down everything when the IPS is done then see what time it is - i know the walk takes 3.5 hrs thereabouts at my speed which is a quick one and if it can't be done i'll just leave
whatever.

How many days do you work? Do you do any IPS?
