In the last few weeks at our NE D.O. we have seen

20 year man with long term injury, given 3 months notice of IHR, even though to everyone it looks like RM haven't a leg to stand on.
Bosses appearing to intimidate people on the sick back to work
Management trying to discourage folks with injury from attending the doctors
Drivers made to start at 9 am
Selling of bags been stopped.

Anyone know if there's something happening apart from Pre-revision activity, or are they trying so soften us up for something else?

Aye so they said this morning. Probably cos they can't get enough peeps to do enough o.t. to cover the shortfall. We have a few walking wounded in the office and some absence through illness. Also we have a few peeps drafted in from nearby offices.

that was outlawed at ours about 5 years ago. if you were caught doing it after that, you were out the door.

So it's not a national policy more like a petty spiteful move by a team of tossers who can't get the troops to work o.t. as.
A) it's not worth doing once the taxman has been at it
B) o.t. requests are launched at you immediately upon arriving at work before you can gauge your days work
C) dutys are changed with no notice while they try to 'manage" absences

Well it would be classed as the "black economy" because money is being earned sans tax and insurance - and the bloke who pays it is paying both and for what reason would someone want to pay someone to do a bag. There is also the fact that RM would see it as a system that circumvents their control and allows people to finish early. I would imagine one of the bigger wigs has got wind of this and told the DOM to put a lid on it or else. When you have a revision it should preclude any chance of this as the starting times will be later and the rounds bigger and no cars on delivery. The delivery starts and finishes will reflect more on the USO last delivery time.

well, it was stopped at ours BEFORE the revision. but people, (myself included) used to ask a mate to do a bag for them for say 15/20 quid depending on how much was in it or how heavy it was and if it was pissing down or freezing etc, and if you had to be somewhere and needed a sharpish finish, but coulnt get time off. it was done on a regular basis and there was always someone who wanted or needed the money. it all went pear shaped one day though when a bag was left in a shop for a postie to do for cash in hand, and the shopkeeper locked up for the day with the bag stood in the shop overnight. he phoned the office to let the dom know about the bag the next day. so the s**t hit the fan.
