The snow .. cancelled SA and none payment

Hi Question to ya all! During the adverse weather evening collections were cancelled on two occasions. This resulted, so i have recently been told, in non-payment of scheduled attendance to those affected. The argument being from the DOM that they had not performed the collection therefore no payment. The issue is obvious here I know but I'll ask anyway. Should these guys have been paid for what is scheduled attendance on the basis that due to factors beyond their control they were cancelled without any discussion or reference to the severe weather tool. The cancellation not only affects their weekly income, but also their SA holiday payments, so it's a double wammy for them. Any advice i've been given so far has been along the lines of " I doubt you'll get that for them" .. sooooo.. Should they have been paid and if so why? No they should not have been paid and if not why not?

We've always been paid S/A when they cancel them,as long as you sign the s/a sheet.
They soon moan if you blow one out at short notice!

Am a big fan of SA as am a collections driver but on this note why should you be paid when you haven't done it?.. I no what you me mate but cum on prob why the company's in the state as it is with posts like this .

as long as you attempt to make it into work, sign in and sit out your hours then there's nothing they can do.

S/A is basiclly a conract. If you attended the office/hub then I think you should be paid. I think the boss is trying it on. The collections were cancelled, but it was out of your control, a decision taken by management. As one of the above posts says, you'd soon be in enough trouble if you didn't show, i.e. broke your side of the contract.

The company is in the state it is due to long running mismanagement, and ill conceived european ideas. We were a profitable company making over a billion a year prior to the opening up of the mail market/DSA fiasco. The reason the compnay is where it is financially, is only bad management, and trying to fix something that wasn't broken in the first place.

Unlikely. There'll be a clause in the contract, much like there is in relation to Special Deliveries, as it's beyond RM's control.

When we had collections cancelled due to the snow all staff who turned up for SAs were paid, those who didn't tuen up weren't paid.

Hmmm mixed bag although to imply my post is the reason RM is in the mess its in is a little unfair. I'm asking a question to get a definitive answer that produces a fair and just result for my members. Most managers I have had experience of (and thats nearly 20 years) do not give or even try to get a fair and just result for anyone, no matter whether its a yes or a no. I wonder if that might be more of reason? Thanks anyway all, I think i know how to advise those involved
