Hi guys, just wanting a bit of advice please
i had a bad stomach throughout the night the other night but arrived to work as normal, when i arrived i explained to my line manager i had a bad stomach ( needing to go toilet regular ect ect ) , i said if she was ok with it i would contiune to work and see how it was, she agreed. after approx 90 mins i said to my line manager i didnt want to risk going out on my walk as id been going back and fourth to the toilet the time i was there, but i didnt mind stayin and doing indoor duties if needed , her attitude soon changed and she told me if i wasnt doing my walk i must go home straight away as there was no indoor duties. so i did, the day after my stomach was fine so i went to work as normal. i was given a back to work meeting and signed a sick day but if i was at work for over a hour should that not count as a sick day? what can i do now? can i have that sick day taken off ? where do i stand? any help much appreciated ( sorry only just realised it may not count as a sick day as i seen a post on here but unsure of the actual rules and proceedings )

Re: question about a sick day
all depends on your DIM m8.
but looks like now they have been told to use every part day of sick as a whole day, so you were better off taking a week off for your stomach as it all counts as the same sickness session.

I thought you have to do over half your shift for it not to be counted as sick

Just to check which of the RMG companies do you work for as you have posted this in the "others" section. It may matter as the agreements may differ and most of the advice on here is for Royal Mail Letters.

It doesn't matter what business unit you are in as the same rule applies. If you work over 1 hour then it's a part day.

Noticed the guidance in the new attendance procedure makes no reference to the 1 hour rule.Poorly wrote:It doesn't matter what business unit you are in as the same rule applies. If you work over 1 hour then it's a part day.
It just says A part-day absence is where an employee has worked for part of their duty and due to illness is unable to continue working.
Vague and open to interpretation possibly?
good times, bad times you know I've had my share
