Dog Attack (Hypothetical)

On the news section of the forum there is a report of a dog running free in the street and postmen refusing to work the street.

This got me thinking to what I would should, God forbid I was attacked by say a roaming Doberman.

I hate violence and am a big dog lover and thought of hurting a dog goes right against my nature, I don't think I could.

What would I do if a Doberman out of control wrapped his jaw around my arm and bit me? .... I don't know.

I would hate to think I would have to kick it, beat it, hurt it.

Anybody feel the same or is it a case of self defense and the dog gets it!?

Do what a guy in our office did, run back to your van then proceed to run the Doberman over

In that situation instinct would overcome sentiment and trust me i speak from experience...you will do what needs to be done.
It's not pleasant or in the slightest bit funny to harm an animal but in some cases it's necessary.

All you can do is s**t yourself and hope the dog is repulsed by the smell........or look for someone smaller to throw into the dogs jaw to distract them.

I have been bitten by a German Shepherd, tried to defend nymelf by putting my pouch un the way but it just ragged it to get at me. The owner came out pretty much straight away and pulled the dog off me fortunately. They even said sorry, and seemed genuinely upset that it had happened.

Of course, that sentiment didn't extend to my boss, whose primary concern was if I could finish the delivery or not, and if I would be taking time off sick. Told him "Yes, I fine thanks". And took a week off.

Me and my P/L partner both got bitten on separate occasions by an Alsatian Collie cross and we are both going to Court to prosecute the owner as both attacks were off her property.
The woman owner is pleading not guilty but it goes to Court in May.
Police said to me she should have pleaded guilty as she hasnt got a leg to stand on with the new dog laws .

No matter how ready you think you are for a dog attack you are not.
My worst one was a mastiff that jumped up at the gate as I was walking by the address and grabbed my arm as I passed.
The shock and the pain left me feeling I wanted to kill the dog just to get it off my arm !
I battered it with my other hand until it released me but would have happily shot the thing given a chance.
As normal the owner said" are you sure cuddles has bit you. He has never done this before"
Show them the hole in my arm and the blood running down it.
Once more met with disbelief
Ended up with hospital visit (stitches and tetanus jab) plus reporting it to the police (no action taken)

We get trouble on the estates where folks go to work and let the dogs free roam all day. Have informed police and they have caught the odd one after an attack but often the scallys dont bother claiming the dog so no action can be taken.

Once all dogs are chipped this may help. But i doubt they will bother.

No. But I wouldn't have put it past them. Lost out on plenty of O/T though.

I used to have a doberman, nicest dog in the world with people, bit of a fighter with other dogs though.

Agree though if I was attacked I wouldn't have a second thought about it, the dog would be getting a hefty boot until it got off me.

I read on the CWU board about Dog attacks, It said ask your Manager for a 'Dog Dazzler' Hmm.. Never hear of 1 of these.. Any ideas what it is?
