Absorption / lapsing chaos

Ok absorption or lapsing whatever we call it has became a huge issue in our office over the past few months.

We have 2 units in our office, one has recently merged into ours and their numbers are roughly a third of our staff.

They have had a revision, ours is pretty close to going live.

Most days our guys are asked to stay on ips past the sorting time, sometimes by up to 45 minutes. While this is going on the smaller unit that has came to our office are wheeling out their yorks and smoking hamlets as they go.

This is rightly getting people's backs up. The second thing is we are being asked to absorb extra calls from up to 5 rounds that are "lapsed" certain days of the week, whilst the other unit are not asked to do anything.

I agree some of their jobs are full up but if we are being asked to do extra and are one office why aren't they?

I've also heard we are to absorb every day next week, and the other unit are not to.

This is all coming from above. Disagreements have gone in before and people still come in early and get back to the office early making me look a tit

Again not everybody. How do I escalate this as it seems when a disagreement goes in nothing happens, area manager rants to Dom, who rants to linos who then rants to us guys.

As a rep what the hell am I to do, some people take extra some don't, I've always said if people have time no worries, if they don't then don't take extra.

I can't point blank refuse if people are making time (not everyone)

And what do I do about the other unit?
Is it my business?

Are you the rep for the other unit? Or did they bring their own rep with them?
If they have had a revision, are their delivery spans longer than yours (at least on paper) and would this explain why they don't lapse?
Don't resign. You'll regret it.

No they bought their own.

The planner they used was clearly on crack for the entire time he planned their walks.

If I got back to my office 2 hours early I'd expect to be given more work. However they are not

I can't really blame them as I'd be loving it, but in the interests of fairness and someone not getting punched its not on.

We have a simular problem in my office, and I say the same as you - if you have time do it, if not don't. But it's like talking to yourself no one listens, I've tried to make them realise working to time in the long run is the way to go, because if you finish on time, what cn they add on? But to many OPG don't take their breaks, don't use trolleys etc, all reps have the same trouble.

The problem is our members, they want it always, and moan when they can't just do as they want.

If you aren't their rep - then I wouldn't worry about them.
With your revision about to go live you will surely have enough to occupy your time.
And if they really are making 2 hours, at some point a ninja bean counter will pop up demanding more savings.

But when members from my unit are chewing my arse off, and my Dom is hacking more of our jobs up, when to me the time is in their jobs and its there in abundance.

All we want is fairness

My guys also don't help issues by coming in early, more and more are finally listening and coming in on time, but we will see

Do you want them to have hours taken out of their unit? Are you arguing FOR job losses?
Do you want them to do your IPS?
Do you want them to do your lapsing?

If the people complaining are those who come in early, and go home hours early, just point that out to them. If they are causing their own problems, there is not much more you can do. Your best bet is to look after the people with genuine grievances, as those who cut corners, still believing this is a 'job and done' industry, are not worth your time. It's a horrible time to be a rep, and as someone who has moaned at mine, yet still been helped out by him, I respect the work you do, for no real thanks or reward.

No what I want is this.

Instead of us always having to go over our ips time to clear up by 20-40 mins, maybe if they helped out for 10 mins, our guys might get done in time, instead of getting stressed out and they can make 1h 50 mins still.

I don't want anyone to lose jobs that's moyas job to balls that up

I think it's got to a stage where I need to look after staff who are being pressured to stay out and absorb, or not be paid overtime etc.

If a manager has no issue with a postie saying "I ain't got time boss" and they accept that then there is no issue.

Most people don't mind working their hours, anything above this without reward then I have an issue with.

People who believe it is their right to make time need to step into the real world.

As for no reward, some one once bought me a coffee and said thanks.

No. He's actually a decent guy, and gets screwed over often, he is a new rep though and struggles to finish his duty. He comes in at the correct time though and cuts off regular so he's ok in my book

I know this is a difficult time for you and others,but the truth is , don't worry about anyone else, it does get you really stressed out.Just do as you have been doing ,just work your hours and go home, I bet its the early starters and racers that are moaning like feck. I love it at the moment, you see all these racers flying about all over the place, just to make 30 mins here or there , WHY ? Once you get used to working until your cut off time you and others will fret and get even more stressed out . I leave up to four loops a day, its feckin brilliant, if im asked to stay on ips for 30 or 40 min longer then great if they asked me to shove a brush up my arse and sweep up then great, more indoor work =less outdoor work. Its only a job so just wear blinkers regarding the dumb clucks that race around, DONT GET STRESSED OUT WORRYING ABOUT OTHERS, STRESS CAN BE A KILLER.
