foreign barcodes

About 90% of the foreign mail with a barcode/registered used to come up with "Royal Mail signature required" red sticker on it. Haven't seen a red sticker for ages do we still have to get signature?

Hmmmm we use paper and the person I do the loops with INSISTS on getting signatures or 739ing everything. Reckons its sackable not to.

I would insist as well. Its better to a signature when you might not need it, then not to get one and experience a conduct case as the main target.

I think because they seem to be struggling at HWDC (looking at the traffic in Customers Section here) they are not sticking the labels on, but it doesn't mean we should stop doing ours.

O.K will do from now on. My main annoyance with them is that they always have to be hand written as barcode not removable and in my delivery area I get loads which really slows me down.

10+ a day and by definition the recipient is usually foreign so explaining what needs to be done takes extra time. A few years ago there was slack in the system that could account for this now with everything cut to the bone and a manager straight from HELL it causes stress that I don't need.

I scan any foreign barcode that looks like it will scan, most just come up not needing a signature but I'd rather be safe than sorry. I have also noticed that the packets with barcodes on from places like Hong Kong that would have had the red "Signature Required" sticker on seem to be missing them.

Had two today, both USA. Tiny little barcodes tucked away in such a manner they seemed inconsequential. One wouldn't scan with PDA - input manually and sig required, other scanned but no sig required. Funny old world innit?

It would never occur to me to ask for a signature for something that didn't say 'Signature Required' (unless it's obvious, like a special or recorded).

I thought there were only certain countries that required a sig (no list anywhere ??) ... certainly some we get are actually "defined" as Specials and we have to treat them as thus ...
