BUY DOWN OF HOURS

A member of staff in our office had a buy down of hours from 40 to 30 hours a week over 3 years ago and he now wants to go back to full time. Whilst I am aware that under the MTSF he is entitled to go back to full time after 2 years it would mean that he would be leap-frugging part time staff who have been waiting to go full time in excesss of 3 years.

We are currently undergoing a Delivery Methods revision in our office and hoping to have a number of staff made up from part time to full time. The postman concerned is quite senior but if made up would do so over the heads of staff who have been waiting longer.

Does anyone have a definitive answer on the unions position on this?

mtsf has a section on buydown. its diffulcut to find a definitive answer to your query, if i was a full timer and some one was trying this i would be well pissed off, surely the rep and dom should keep him part time, which seems morally right to me.

If FT jobs become available it goes on seniority & if he is senior enough to qualify for the vacancy or vacancies it is his if he wants it.
This ain't no baseball game, you get only one chance and you blew it.

if he has written to the book room stating he would like to be considered to increase his hours.

And this is why I haven't even seen the option of buying down hours in a DO for the last 10 years.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

I got a buy down of hours when I was 59 and 4 months, strange really because I could have retired 8 months later - I had applied for redundancy and buy down and got buy down which is just about 7 years ago - I think I was the last one in our office.
