Letter to Branches
To: All Branches with Postal Members
Dear Colleague
CWU Local Representatives Briefing paper – National talks – “Save our Royal Mail” Campaign
Please find attached to this LTB a comprehensive briefing paper that CWU local Reps should use to engage members in meetings and face to face dialogue in the workplace.
The briefing paper explains the position the Union is taking to the Policy Forum on our National talks with Royal Mail. It also covers the “Save our Royal Mail” Campaign.
The briefing paper is designed to build on articles that will appear in the next edition of the Voice, which should arrive from Monday the 18th February.
It is essential that branches ensure all Local Representatives are in receipt of a copy of the brief. We would also encourage all Representatives to engage with their local Royal Mail manager to explain the Unions position. As part of this we also want our Representatives to provide their local manager with a copy of the CWU Special Report issued last week.
Further communications will be issued in due course.
Any enquiries regarding the content of the briefing paper should be addressed to the DGS (P) Department.
Yours sincerely
Dave Ward
Deputy General Secretary (P)

Is that the union finally admitting that the current system of communication through branches and reps is failing in some areas?• We want at least 5 CWU members in each location to provide us with email addresses so that your office gets more up to date and relevant information about what is happening during this crucial period.

Not sure what significant fruit that would bear, anyway if HQ have such a good relationship with Moya Greene then why dont they tell her to tell them. This idea of working with Royal Mail and on the other hand muster support for an IA yes vote doesnt fill me with confidence.

And the special report says...Danelectro wrote:As part of this we also want our Representatives to provide their local manager with a copy of the CWU Special Report issued last week.
• The Company continues to place unacceptable pressure on delivery employees. This is directly linked to an oppressive managerial culture
So we're basically saying they are savings driven bullies who can't people manage but HQ expects us to hand them this report and "engage".
Should be a larf.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Does this not effectively put in place a union committee?fishtank wrote:Is that the union finally admitting that the current system of communication through branches and reps is failing in some areas?• We want at least 5 CWU members in each location to provide us with email addresses so that your office gets more up to date and relevant information about what is happening during this crucial period.

We have a committee and I'm sure that the people we have on it are more than capable of understanding a few shitty directives off the CWU.clashcityrocker wrote:Does this not effectively put in place a union committee?fishtank wrote:Is that the union finally admitting that the current system of communication through branches and reps is failing in some areas?• We want at least 5 CWU members in each location to provide us with email addresses so that your office gets more up to date and relevant information about what is happening during this crucial period.

The DDA/Equality Act demands action,NOT words......adjustments NOT Occupational Health referrals.Case No:2505901/09
Royal Mail is an Equal Opportunities Employer..It discriminates against everybody.

No - reps aren't super intelligent. But people bring their own agendas to the table.General Mannerheim wrote:

When I see the number of threads on here from people who clearly still don't understand D2D into workload (because the part-timers are being shafted) or the introduction of the 39hr week (because the f/t staff are now getting paid more than p/t) I don't think sending them a turgid CWU LTB is going to help much.
And a lot of LTBs are irrelevant to the average OPG, especially if their Branch is pursuing its own little agenda anyway.

Committees should be elected otherwise management favourites will be encouraged to send in their email addresses. HQ need to watch out for members who are getting more than their fair share of overtime, are acting managers and/or whose relatives are on casual or fixed term contracts.
Productivity
The public sector is the engine of growth in our economy. The service sector (builders, butchers, cab drivers etc.) depends on customers who get their money from the public purse. The Union should be doing everything it can to increase public sector jobs. Competition in the postal sector is not possible if we want to keep a universal, same price goes anywhere service. The idiot Mandelson opened us up to competition and the other New Labour idiots followed. New Labour were like tories because they had a grammar school attitude to results. These idiots were making MPs apologise for sending their kids to hippy private schools with respectably low results while MPs like Harman got away with sending her kid to a highly selective grammar school.
They don't get it. Results don't apply to jobs. The workplace is not the Olympics. The most talented do not replace the incumbents every four years. We all want job security so we have to deal with the reality.
The public sector is about quality of service not productivity. The public who work in the service sector don't want value for money, they want customers. The Union should never have agreed to reducing the working week. One hour a week off every postman will mean a reduction in future jobs.
You don't increase quality of service by forcing people to work harder. People are not like rhubarb.
