How to cut off/claim overtime

Post by DSM94 »

Just been informed by rep that i shouldn't be coming in earlier (management acted as if they never knew) He told me that if there's any problems i should tell management (doubt they'll listen) my question is how do i cut off or claim the rest as overtime?

You come in early, you cant. End of story. You have a finish time for your duty, you can only claim if you go past that. Moral of the story. Start on time then cut off or claim whatever you go over. Just remember to inform management which you are doing before you go out on delivery.

always tell line manager before leaving office if you cant complete delivery. you decide if you want to carry on over your time to complete then book o/t for it or you leave the required amout of your delivery in the office so you only take out the right amount of your delivery that will take you up to your finishing time. then its up to the line manager to find somebody else to deliver the mail you are leaving on o/t. always make sure you have a witness when discussing these issues with your line manager, ie union rep/ p&l partner or any other colleague.

lifting directly from mpl1111 above.. 'you leave the required amount of your delivery in the office so you only take out the right amount of your delivery that will take you up to your finishing time.'.. the 'required amount' you leave is determined by the manager so he judges 'the right amount of your delivery that will take you up to your finishing time.'..

You deliver according to the spec.s laid out, no rushing to complete to his expectation, he's not delivering the round.. you are! and return to the office with time to spare to complete your paperwork for the end of your working day - there is no way that you doing the job properly can be construed as 'wilful delay'.. ask your rep. what 'properly' is, he should be able to advise you correctly.. do not let anyone 'force','intimidate' or 'mock' you into cutting corners.. whether we agree or not the conditions we work under have been reached by agreement, for the most part, and if 'we' continue as a workforce to cut-up the job we'll have no-one to blame but ourselves when o/time hr.s are cut and/or people are laid-off..

I would only let a manager decide how much work i took out if i had a clear written understanding that if he gets it wrong i get to bring what's left back.
Otherwise i would be making the decision.
They can't have it both ways.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

you tell the manager how much you are leaving you do the job also when advising him that you cannot complete [witnessed] do not get drawn into any conversation regarding volumes and if he starts going down the road of performance then advise him he really shouldnt and if he persists that you will take out a grievance against him, as long as you work to your hours you are fine ,that also means that you do not leave early on lighter days. :angel

To answer the question without going into the polotics and rights and wrongs..... just talk to your manager.

Explain that you now know your start and finish time and what does HE or SHE want you to do about claiming for going over, usually I sign for any ot the next day when i know .....( :nervous ).... exactly how long over i have gone.
or ask them THEIR proceedure for cutting off and exactly how you go about it.

Sandy: "It's a cheerful philosophy and I've heard it from people before. They're all dead now."
Monkey "Excuse me when I say, that you really are extraordinarily dim!"
