Parcelforce – Joint Statement Resourcing In Depots

Branches and representatives will be aware of the Resourcing Through Growth and Change Agreement, which was communicated via LTB 682/11.

In line with the aforementioned agreement discussions have been ongoing with the business in regard to resourcing within our Parcelforce depots. Attached to this LTB for your information is a Joint Statement which details the outcome of those discussions and reaffirms our commitment to deal pragmatically with the growth that is being experienced in Parcelforce.

Representatives are requested to ensure that our members are made aware of the contents of this LTB.

Any enquiries in relation to this LTB should be addressed to Terry Pullinger, Assistant Secretary, e-mail: dwyatt@cwu.org or lwright@cwu.org quoting reference number: 102.02

JOINT STATEMENT

Resourcing in PFW depots

The Resourcing Through Growth And Change Agreement signed in 2011 set the scene for how PFW and CWU would continue to produce pragmatic solutions to the challenges of market conditions, maintaining the standard of living and job security of employees whilst managing business growth.

We have seen traffic volumes increase by an average of 10% over the last year with the number of routes growing accordingly. We are confident that that level of growth will be maintained and as such both parties have agreed to grow the number of core employed PFW routes and owner driver routes by 10% increasing them to 1784 and 594 respectively from their previous levels.

Coming out of a very busy peak period, PFW are also reviewing the level of temporary contracts within the business and are now able to offer permanent contracts to those employees who meet the qualifying criteria (6 months service and a permanent future operational requirement). Approximately 150 frontline employees will benefit from the offer of a permanent contract under this review.

In addition we will also be reviewing the level of agency and courier resource within our depots in the light of increased traffic volumes described above. Both parties agree that it is beneficial to reduce the level of agency and courier resource to a minimum and to this aim we will be looking to convert as many current agency workers and couriers to PFW and owner driver contracts as possible, where traffic volumes and templates allow. Additional recruitment will take place where gaps still exist.

As we continue with our expansion plans, we will continue to review the levels of resource required on a regular basis.

Any questions of interpretation, implementation or application of this agreement shall be referred to the respective headquarters for resolution.
