Advice

Post by walkingthestreets »

Hello all,

Basically, ive been a postie about 4 months now, despite initial excitement about getting a job i'd always wanted to do, I have found those in charge to be laughable at times really..

I would just like some advice on a couple of issues. I have recently been transferred to another DO as the one I was at was overstaffed. Now, this week, I have been shipped to another DO, despite less senior employees being in the same office. Could I argue seniority on this and refuse to go for the day?

I have also recently booked some holidays for the next holiday year, most were granted, I didn't allocate my full quota of days, and upon getting my form back it seems the manager has done this for me and booked a week and a day that I didnt ask him for, can he do this?

Finally, if it came to it, what sort of notice would be required for a part timer on a temporary contract?

Thankyou in advance!

The allocation of holidays is a problem in a lot of offices, but the problem lies with the fact that the managers are allowed to do it when it should really be done by the union as it was in our office. We couldn't always guarantee you would get exactly what you wanted but we made sure that it was done fairly and everyone ended up with more or less what they wanted, rather than allocated a week or two at the manager's discretion.
